We had a thunderstorm yesterday with some heavy rain. We've avoided the worst of the smoke lately. Today was cooler than normal but still humid. I can't remember the last time something unusual happened.

It rained in Summit Camp at 10K feet elevation on August 14th! nsidc.org/greenland-today/2021/08/rain-at-the-summit-of-greenland/On August 14, 2021, rain was observed at the highest point on the Greenland Ice Sheet for several hours, and air temperatures remained above freezing for about nine hours. This was the third time in less than a decade, and the latest date in the year on record, that the National Science Foundationβs Summit Station had above-freezing temperatures and wet snow. There is no previous report of rainfall at this location (72.58Β°N 38.46Β°W), which reaches 3,216 meters (10,551 feet) in elevation. Earlier melt events in the instrumental record occurred in 1995, 2012, and 2019; prior to those events, melting is inferred from ice cores to have been absent since an event in the late 1800s. The cause of the melting event that took place from August 14 to 16, 2021, was similar to the events that occurred this late July, where a strong low pressure center over Baffin Island and high air pressure southeast of Greenland conspired to push warm air and moisture rapidly from the south.

The 84 F (28.9 C) for low from yesterday held up, tying the all-time warmest minimum, which has occurred 11 other times (lmao). w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KMIA.htmlThis morning is not quite as warm but still very warm, with an 81 F (27.2 C) temperature and a 75 F (23.9 C) dew point as of 7 am. Predicted high is 91 F (32.8 C) today. Pathetic rain chances again today:

0.9C/23.2C today for the temps. Was a warm sunny day, so beautiful, hung out in shorts and a shirt drinking, but when I was outside on the deck observing nature with my binoculars this afternoon, the temp went down quick, by sunset I had to put socks and long pants on. Warm and showery tomorrow, 11/21C with up to 4mm of rain, but in reality more like 0.4mm 25C forecast on Sunday

Overnight low was 78 F (25.6 C) last night, first below 80 F low in five days here. Today's predicted here is 93 F (33.9 C) with mostly sunny skies, no chance of thunderstorms. 82 F (27.8 C) with a 77 F (25 C) dew point as of 8 am.
This dry pattern we're in can get fucked.

Yesterday was much cooler with clouds, drizzle and temps around 70 in the afternoon. Produced a gorgeous double rainbow in the evening.
Had a thunderstorm early this morning and the low dipped to 50 (10 c), the coolest temp since June.

Looks like we're in for a few cooler, wetter period this week. The forecast shows three days with highs below 20C, which hasn't happened since late May, and rain or chance of showers on all of them.

Yesterday's high has been 20.5C and unusually for this month there has been no rain in Riga. Similar today: Well, at least it is better here than in Finland and Estonia.

@b87 Β Are these correct? I count 19 days above 25c and 4 above 30c. The lack of 20c days was due to the awful April/May, as only 12 days have failed to reach 20c since 1 June. There probably won't be any sub-21c days for the rest of August, and September looks like it'll be dominated by high pressure so we could still get another 30-40 days of 20c+.

5C this morning, our coldest temperatures since we had a frost on the morning of June 21st! While that frost was totally out-of-season, this 5C low is definitely not. Late August is the time of the year where we will often start to get very chilly lows once again. Just another sign that fall is right around the corner.

Don't see this too often. Might get a good soaker but should be fine being further west. At least something interesting in an otherwise boring time of year.
