2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 were below average here. 2012 and 2014 were barely below average and had days in the 80s. Both were typical Aprils, both decent months. 2016 was -4.0 f, averaged 53/32. Had some record cold at the beginning then a bunch of nice warm, sunny days. It was also a dry month. Not bad at all. link2018 was godawful for the first 3 weeks. Last week was warm and sunny though. Particularly awful since it came after after a well below average month, turned into a legendary May though. link2020 is the worst one so far. No interesting cold, absolute lack of warmth, very stable. Itโs gotten colder as the month has gone on like a fall month. At least March was warm. link

Surely we must be approaching a record sunny April, it's been ne blue dome day after for at least the last two weeks. Although the long term forecast seems to be returning to low pressure.

This April will probably not reach 2007 sun levels. April 1984 and 1990 were significantly sunnier than April 2007. Late April/early May looks unsettled and wet before a return to fairly average settled conditions further into May. If we get a sunnier than average May, it'll be the first time since 2011 that every month of spring was sunnier than average! The last time before that was in 2003.

Below average Aprils in Binghamton since 2012; 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2018 2020 (running -3.6F anomoly with days to go) 7 out of the past 9 Aprils have now been below average in Bunghole Also 6 out of the past 8 Marches have been below average as well That must suck. Spring is the worst time for below average weather, especially in a place like Bunghole where an average spring is already deficient

93/67 is impressively hot for April, especially that min. Doesn't look like any day has been similar

Where was the heat wave that is going to hit Beijing before? Well, it was frying Irkutsk www.accuweather.com/en/ru/irkutsk/292712/april-weather/292712Typical average high in Irkutsk this time of year is 8c. But past five days they had highs of 24c, 22c, 25c, 25c, and 19c Ulanbaatar will also flirt with 30c tomorrow?

I predict 2020 will be one of the, if not the sunniest year on record in Europe and most of the Northern Hemisphere. Pollution levels are much lower right now due to the corona pandemic, and probably will be for some months, and since air particles are needed for clouds to form, the probability for dry and sunny weather should be higher than normal.
It's why Antarctica is so dry and sunny, and I also think it might be why the weather in Europe and Scandinavia especially is becoming so much sunnier compared to 50 years ago, because we're releasing way way less pollutants into the air.

Growing degree days so far in the Northeast. Think nei Steelernation alex992 Giorbanguly would like to see this map. alex992 This really demonstrates how the west of Appalachians are a more continental climate than east. Crazy how places in NOVA have 30 more GDD than places of the same latitude in lowland WV and Ohio.
Philadelphia UHI (60-70) or even non UHI (50-60) versus Greene County PA (20-30) Richmond VA (80+) versus Charleston WV (50-60) Scranton PA (30-40) versus DuBois PA (10-20)

May now looks like it could end up sunnier than April. I can just imagine we will have a decent June and then the cloudiest July and August on record, just as I get back home.

May off to a somewhat cloudy start so far, but as the weather is warmer, ensoleillements won't be as necessary

Found a US map of growing days. I don't like the color scheme as much as the map Speagles found. www.usanpn.org/data/agdd_mapsThis is the anomaly. Warm in the south and mid-atlantic, but cool in most of the north.

The sunshine streak in Saskatoon is continuing strongly - we had 265.3 hours of sunshine in April compared to the 30-year average of 222.0, and slightly more than the May average of 263.0. May has been off to a very sunny start as well. None of this is really surprising considering how dry it's been and the fact this has essentially become the norm in recent years.
Every single year of the 2010s was above average in sunshine, and the average sun hours for that decade is over 200 hours sunnier than the 30-year average. We also had our three sunniest years ever this past decade, with 2011 coming in at an impressive 2686 hours of sunshine, a whopping 418 hours sunnier than average. The least sunny year was 2010 with 2272.8 hours, just 5 hours sunnier than average.

A small hailshower today at 10'C. Normally it's pretty cold when we get graupel and ice pellets. Strange sight to see all the hail grains melt in half a second.
