LOL what a fucking toilet the netweather model output thread is. Such a beautiful warm sunny day today and all these prepubescent can do is cherry pick out the coldest possible charts going into April. I mean I get people loving cold and snow in WINTER and perhaps March, but now, the cold will not mean snow for anybody, and they are really taking the piss. Are these people really that fucking averse to settled, pleasant weather for the first time in more than six months? Fucking cretins. I mean the entire model output thread is full of that crap. "Oh let's look for the coldest possible easter charts and cream our panties". FUCK OFF. and have a nice day Edit: I wish I could troll netweather, it's literally perfect for it, but their sign up system is very complicated with all sorts of "validation" shit. I'd be on there saying things like "I hope your creme eggs freeze and your teeth shatter when you try and bite into them".

Getting a nice sun tan this afternoon. Don't have to go anywhere, sun coming through the window.

Getting a nice sun tan this afternoon. Don't have to go anywhere, sun coming through the window. You're not getting a tan through the window. You'll have a hard time getting a tan outside as well with a 38° maximum sun angle and high latitude ozone thickness.

You're actually wrong. I work at my computer with the sun coming in directly to my left and my left hand skin (I'm very fair skinned btw) is already noticeably darker than my right. Noticed same thing last year - sun has more than enough strength to produce the effect this time of the year (yes, through a window).
Also - UV index of 3 (as it is now, in late March here) is quite capable of even burning someone with fair skin if exposed for long enough - though a window will block UVB rays and make this a lot less likely than naked sun.

Glass is tranparent for visible light, but UV rays below a certain wavenenght are absorbed. I don't remember the exact treshold, but it is probably something like 300 nm.

Temperature's dropping like a motherfucker right now, with not a single cloud in sight. Would probably hit near or plunge below 0° C tonight and early this morning, given the current conditions. If it's scoring sub-freezing already, then I can't fucken wait for winter...

UVB is completely blocked by glass meaning zero production of melanin. And according to temis.nl which seems to measure UV and ozone quite meticulously say the UV index is 2.2-2.4 for Buxton throughout the week. In the end of April last year we were ice fishing from 10 to 15 on a blue dome sky day with bright white snow everywhere. I tried to face the sun the whole day but still I didn't notice any color or burning or anything on my face and my porceline skin gf didn't burn either. Might be there's a bunch of UVA which turns already present melanin darker, but UVB is insignificant, and so you won't burn, producr vitamin D or melanin.

UVA can stimulate production of melanin - and as I said, my left hand (on the top) is visibly darker than my right, which doesn't get the sun through the window. Same thing happened last year. The effect is noticed on my left wrist as well, which looks fairly tan compared to the right one. I'm looking at the difference right now. About a 5-10% difference in tone. The difference will be ever bigger in a couple months. www.livestrong.com/article/65913-exposure-ultraviolet-light-influence-melanin/You have to consider that I work on a computer by a window (to my left) which is SW facing, for up to hours at a time - I can't think of any other explanation for the difference in skin tone on each hand occurring from around March time.

Kind of easy to tell. www.livestrong.com/article/65913-exposure-ultraviolet-light-influence-melanin/I wouldn't take a health and fitness magazine blog as gospel. WHO and Wikipedia say UVB causes production of melanin whereas UVA oxidates already present melanin.

Well, it clearly must be, as I can observe. First noticed it last year (first year in this particular flat) and found it funny. And sure, I'm not going to get a proper "tan" in this level of sunshine through a window (it's taken hours to just darken my left hand a bit). My first post was more a point about enjoying sunbathing in my window.

Today’s the 10th straight day with no precipitation This ties the 6th longest March dry streak and the 96th overall but it’ll be ended tomorrow barring a major forecasting error. The dryness and sunshine has been the only redeeming feature of this month.

Hoping for a good shot of cool air here during April, we haven't had a below average April in 13 years (since 2005). Hoping for a good deal of frontal precipitation from passing cold fronts as well. Of course, this is all wishful thinking.
If none of this happens, just please fast forward me to wet season. The weather at this time of year is often so boring...

First flowers on my lawn appeared a few days ago, about 1 month later than usual. They sure are hardy to handle these lows.

At least, this March will no longer be the dullest recorded here any more (2005 had even less sun). I haven't really bothered to look at forecasts, don't really want the mental torture. I did get a glance of one by accident and nearly choked right then and there. Something like 2°C with snow for the first week of April.
