It's called "arctic blast" because of the air mass origin....obviously air masses do moderate a bit before reaching mid-latitude regions. It's not gonna be -40 C in St. Louis or Cincinnati, for example.
Although yeah, calling a 4 C high in London an "arctic blast" sounds a tad overdramatic lol.

Supposedly 2 cm snow cover at Trondheim - Lade for many days now, including this morning, seemed weird since we have had several days lately that should have melted snow. Proably the brown grass from last summer....took this photo today. Have noticed there have been problems with calibrating the automated snow cover recording for many stations.

Are weather stations really supposed to be located on slopes?

It's the winter that never ends in Western Canada. We're finally getting above-freezing temperatures in the forecast (only a month late) but now we're supposed to get 2cm of snow overnight and then 2-4cm more tomorrow... Ah well, hopefully the 10C in the forecast for Sunday holds up!

We are forecast a couple of 24c days next week and they keep upgrading the forecast with each run. Maybe the first 70 and 80 on the same day if it keeps up? Edit: 26c forecast for next Thursday now, real chance of the first 80F day, let alone 70F.

Dipped below freezing this morning, hopefully for the last time this spring. We hit 30F (-1C), but temps soared into the 40’s less than an hour after sunrise.

I'm hoping for no more highs in the 30s aside from today and next Thursday. Is that too much to ask?

No highs in the 30’s here since 3/21, the first day of astronomical spring.
Also, yesterday was the first day my station recorded a solar irradiance over 1000 W/m2, peaking at 1120 W/m2. I wish this and sunshine hours were more commonly recorded in the US, but at least New York State’s suite of weather stations record the solar irradiance data.

NYC got hit a lot less hard than Upstate NY in both March and April. Another reason to finally graduate and move the fuck out of this shithole

Seriously there are some idiots on the Netweather forum. Now they are trying to deny that the last decade has seen cloudy summers, and that they actually have been very average since 2014 (hint: they haven't).

This has to be one of the weirdest things I've seen all week! Satellite pic of the UK covered in cloud matching almost its exact shape, barely anything over nearby France, of course.
