Riddarhällan at 66°N recorded 31'C today in Sweden. It's not an SMHI station however so it's unclear how accurate it is. An official SMHI station in Älvsby 20km away recorded 29.5'C, so it's not that improbable that Riddarhällan could've surpassed 30'C considering it's located next to a large south-facing mountain slope.

Impressive warmup today in Umeå.

Visby, Svenska Högarna and Stockholm have 384h, 386h and 376h respectively between the 1st and 28th and are basically guaranteed to reach 400h. The all time record for any mpnth at like 460 or something in Umeå in June isn't in any danger though.
All in all there will be probably about 5 stations reaching 400h at least.

Oh really. Would've expected Skagen or the islands to have reached at least 400h. 350h? That's really weak actually.

Yeah, it's the average for the whole country. Some individual stations have surely reached more.

350 is the average of all the records, or one station will hit 350h in some mont of the year on average?

The average of this month's tally I think. Read the article.

Could this May be the most anomalous month ever in certain places in Fennoscandia? In terms of recurrance? Gothenburg will be like 2'C warmer than anything in the last couple of hundred years, and considering the old record was only like 3'C above average, suddenly having a +5'C anomaly is absolutely BONKERS. It's like us suddenly getting a +4'C mean February.

Helsinki's May 1867 with a negative anomaly of 8C is still "a bit" further ahead...

And I guess there are winter months which are more extreme.

January 1987 in Helsinki and Turku had a 12.6C negative anomaly.

And I guess there are winter months which are more extreme. Yeah but I meant in comparison to what's a normal range. If in 300 years, the record were a +3'C anomaly, a +5'C anomaly would be BOOOONKERS. Don't know how far back Gothenburg's records go though. And Ariete, I should've specified positive anomaly.

February 1990 had a 9.0C positive anomaly in Oulu. Sodankylä 9.5C.

February 1990 had a 9.0C positive anomaly in Oulu. Sodankylä 9.5C. A +9 anomaly in February is less anomalous than a +6 anomaly in May. Lots of our stations have had +9'C anomalies.

It's like us suddenly getting a +4'C mean February. Not that extreme here at least. We are looking at beating the old record by "only" ca 0.5°C for May mean, we will end up a little above 13°C. The Kotsøy inland valley village in my region at 63 N currently has a 20.8°C avg high and will end up above 21, while Værnes are struggling to reach a 20°C avg high this May.
Oslo - Blindern (met.office at 94 m asl) has mean 15.4°C so far and probably will beat the old record 15.7°C given the forecast. The all time high is from an older weather station (Observatoriet) a little closer to downtown. Might get mean above 16°C given the very warm forecast.
Sigdal - Eggedal currently has avg high 23.4°C, might go above 24°C before the month is over.

The May mean record in Finland is from Viipuri in May 1897 with 16.0C, but as Viipuri is no longer in Finland, you can't probably count it... I don't have 100% certainty of it, but the highest I've spotted from a location in contemporary Finland is 15.2C, and that is very likely to be broken. Helsinki Kumpula is one of the contenders with a mean of 15.0C up until today. edit: Tampere Tampella (big UHI) has a mean of 15.3C so far.
In any case, most stations in Finland will have their hottest May on record, including Turku.

Our high today was 4.3° C, with freezing rain and squally >60 km/h Southwesterly winds all day. Finally back to our average wintry conditions, it seems!
