Seeing as the weather's so boring and cool in the UK summer I'm keeping a close watch on this heatwave. Following the temps each day over the PNW as it's pretty interesting.

Forecasting 49°C(120°F) in Portland... are you drunk??? Haha thanks for the laugh. This forecast makes TWC's 45 C look reasonable.

This is just crazy, models still haven't budged on these Monday temps. Showing Widespread 40c+ temps across the lower mainland (metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley). Localized areas in the region could approach the all time Canadian record, per the 12z euro run.

New all time record at Abbotsford. 38.3c (101f) as of 3pm, beating out the old record by 0.3c. It's hard to put into words how envious I am. This is Canada we're talking about. I'm farther south with a significantly warmer average temp in all summer months, and haven't hit 100 F since 2012

Scratch that record though, Abbotsford just hit 39.0c as of 4pm. One other official environment canada station in the Fraser Valley (Cultus Lake) has hit 40.6c. Another official environment canada station in eastern metro vancouver (Pitt Meadows) has reached 36.9c.

We had a pretty impressive warm spell early this month actually - officially we had 11 days in a row of highs of 85 F (29 C) or greater (!) including a 95 F (35 C) - but the past as many days have been crap, and it's not like our June averages are anything to write home about anyway. Through the end of yesterday, our month-to-date averages are 83.4/59.2 - that's 5 F warmer than average and I'm still calling it "just okay" so you can imagine my appetite for heat and lack of tolerance for cold bullshit in summer.

Ah yeah of course that heatwave across the Prairies earlier must've affected you guys too. Recall Winnipeg hit 36c or something close to that number. On the bright side... at least you're running 5f above normal on the month. Not sure which summer it was (2014 or 2015?) but I remember many terming it the year without summer in the eastern prairies and great lakes region

Not sure which summer it was (2014 or 2015?) but I remember many terming it the year without summer in the eastern prairies and great lakes region Yeah that warm spell early in the month was from that same prairie heat wave - though of course we didn't get quite as warm as they did out there - so while it was of course nice and warm/hot here, it was always a "damn it" moment when I'd see a temperature map and all these places in Canada at higher latitudes would be warmer 2014 would be that year without a summer - the other thing that didn't help was that we had a notably cold winter that remained firmly in place well into March, so the lakes saw near-record ice cover and took forever to warm up, further ruining things for those of us who live close to one of said lakes 2015 was better - I actually remember it as being a pretty good summer, though that must just be my personal bias given that I had a good year that year, considering an actual look at the numbers proves that it too was actually rather poor. 2016 was good though.

Even YVR (right next to the ocean and always has a cooling NW breeze) has easily surpassed 30c.

Daaaamn, Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 39C in Victoria for Monday!
And 45C for Lytton, BC on that same day, which could tie or break Canada's all-time heat record!

I topped out at 35C/95F today. It's 5pm so it should decline from here.

Rapid snowmelt (since 850mb temps are between 25c and 30c) could become a problem for the valleys to the north and/or east of the Vancouver region.

Euro, GFS and ICON are showing localized temps up to 43c-45c in parts of the lower mainland (fraser valley) on Monday too.

Let this sink in:
