A historic heat wave will affect the Pacific Northwest over the following week, smashing all time record highs in Oregon, Washington, and BC. Discuss the heat wave and records set here. Forecasts per TWC: Portland Seattle The Dalles, OR Hanford, WA Kamloops, BC

Here is the TWC forecast for my current location. Quite a bit hotter than EC and wunderground: And yeah I think this deserves its own thread.

Wow, Portland (and Vancouver) is really gonna pull off an 80 degree low. 114/80, honestly wouldn't be out of the ordinary in Death Valley this time of year. By the way, this is happening in a Csb (cool-summer Mediterranean) climate. The PNW has morphed into Australia with the extreme anomalies.

If Kamloops actually hits the 116F/46C predicted, that will be a new all-time heat record for Canada. Likewise, North Van's 108F/42C forecast would blow their previous record out of the water.
As Candle pointed out, though, Environment Canada is forecasting much lower temperatures than that (though still very much on the hot side). So we'll see what happens with all of that.

Question ? why is there such a difference in forecast max temps in BC between TWC and Enviro Canada ? Because TWC is a bullshit unofficial source so of course its numbers are going to be out of whack. Granted, I can't really comment as I don't have much experience with the particular climates of that area, but I'd say Environment Canada is more than likely going to end up being closer to reality than what I call the Channel.

These are hourly observations, but among The Weather Clickbait forecasts I smell a rat... Gonna leave NWS and EC (well, Environment Canada not ECMWF) forecasts here for a comparison. Portland, OR: Seattle, WA: The Dalles, OR: Hanford, WA: Kamloops, BC:

Fantastic to see, really happy for you guys! Looks like more than a week of consecutive 40+ C highs in some spots. Coming from a remote island I've always been jealous of NA / Euro countries that can get these kinds of sustained summer heatwaves.

From a meteorological / weather enthusiast perspective it’s a very exciting event, but it’s not exactly a good thing. Portland is not Redding or Fresno (although this would be a major heat wave even by their standards). The infrastructure and electrical grid here are not built to withstand 110+ degree heat because it has never happened before. Many homes on the west side of the Cascades do not have AC. There will be numerous heat related deaths, especially if any blackouts happen.

I'm thinking Kamloops tops out around 42-43c... as mentioned, if the Canadian record is to fall it'll be further south in the Thompson valley in Ashcroft. Keep an eye on that station.

Even I in Wisconsin am jealous of places like these that can get these kinds of sustained summer heat waves. Like Omega said, this is gonna be bad as far as human life and infrastructure though - I'm certain there are millions of people in these areas who have never experienced these kinds of temperatures before, considering all-time records are in danger, and all the people who figured they didn't need AC are going to be proven wrong big-time over these next few days. Let's hope there aren't too many mass casualties.

What Kamloops is getting would be equal to a solid week of 45C+ here, but last crummer didn't even have half a dozen 38C days here for fucks sake.

As for the Pee En Double Yoo heatwave…not gonna happen. Mark my words. I doubted it at first too but it now looks likely that Metro Vancouver hits 40c for the first time in recorded history. I think that qualifies as an extreme heatwave around these parts.
