bar January? is 20 hours of sun a better option than the other months?
It's of course not ideal in any way, but neither is that something I'm unfamiliar with. During the time which I'd lived in Turku, I have experienced 3 months that had less than 10 hours of sunshine. 5 hours in November 2014 and December 2020, and 6 hours in February 2014. But after Donar's explanation, I'd also add February as a "good" month.
I've heard that people in Scandinavia take vitamin D pills and have special UV lights for the winter months. Is this true? I imagine that in Finland people just say "fuck that" and drink vodka all winter :DDDD

July was average and dry. 0.2F above normal, 31% of normal rainfall. The drought that started in the spring continued and rainfall is at 54% for the year. Most of the rain came in one overnight storm (0.84" of the 1.07), with the rest coming in a few brief showers that only lasted a few minutes. Temperatures started out variable, with the first 12 days having highs from 66-75 or 90-95. The first high close to the normal was the 13th. After that it was still variable for summer standards, with some 90s and 70s. Some wildfire smoke was visible but not much since there were no fires close by.
The main storm was on the 29th when a derecho swept across the state. Milwaukee didn't see much damage but it was the first storm in weeks and the first "big" storm with news coverage of the summer. It came around 1:30 am and was a nice lightning show. The severe winds stayed further west. I took a crappy video of it. With the tornado siren, lightning, and rain it was an eerie experience to wake up to. A tornado warning was given but none appeared around here. The state as a whole saw 15 small EF0 or EF1 tornadoes from the storm as well as strong straight-line winds. My video, and a video of the radar loop
NWS coverage MilwaukeeGreen BaySince I have not posted an update in a few months, here's the missing months in a spoiler.April: Warm and dry May: Average and dry, June: 2nd warmest on record and dry April was warm (+3.3F) and dry, only 40% of normal precip. The last sub-32 reading at the airport was the 2nd which is very early. However some suburban stations reached 32 on May 30th, almost 2 full months later. April is often a wet, dreary month but this year it was dry and mild. May started out with a cool morning and a hot afternoon. A strong SW wind gave some areas a 50F dirunal, with the airport seeing a 88/41 day (31/5C). At the end of the month there were some chilly days with rain. The airport reported 52/46 and 49/44 but it stayed much warmer than the inland suburbs because of a light lake breeze. Waukesha airport (Inland) was 46/37, 46/34, and 59/32. 32F on May 30th! Milwaukee airport daily. Note the 88/41 on the 1st and the 49/44 on the 28th. Waukesha airport is more rural and saw a 84/36 day on the 1st and 32F on the 30th, with a few 30F freezes mid-month. Burlington records some of the coldest temps for an hourly airport station in the southeast. 86/35 (50F diurnal) on the 1st, and 71/31 on the 30th. That's 30/2 and 22/-1C. A few other stations had similar temps. June started hot and remained average or above most of the month. The second warmest on record for Milwaukee. Rainfall was around half of average and there were a few storms but nothing exceptional. The coolest day still had a maximum of 73F/23C...the warmest on record and the first to have all days reach 70. The previous record was 1973, which had a day only reach 69F/21C. Generally there is a day with a high in the 50s in June and the long-term average is 56. Lake Michigan is easily cold enough to keep temps in the 50s if the wind is in the right direction in early June. This year it just didn't happen.

Absolutely, some take vitamin D supplement pills, but it is also added to margarine and milk products during the low sun period in Finland, so you get additional vitamin D without having to really think about it. UV lights are more controversial, and I think they help people only with clinically proven SAD, and are more or less useless for people without SAD.

The Honorable Dandemic Andrews has made vitamin D vaccines compulsory due to the climate this year. Those refusing will receive a $5000 fine. Keep in mind that this is probably the sunniest station in southern Victoria. cdweather.boards.net/post/185315On a related note, I was definitely Finnish in my previous life.

London so far in 2021. Only April sunnier than average, but combined with well below average temps. A pretty crap year overall.

Suppose I should post this. Not a good month aside from the sunny spell in the middle. The change from zero recorded sunshine to spells of 100% sunshine in the following week is perhaps the biggest swing I've ever seen here.
