Been a sensational week of monsoonal conditions here at home. I am about 1klm from the BOM AWS for my suburb ( Leanyer ). Some differences between the two locations.... BOM AWS and My Home Gauge 21st - 74.0mm and 53.5mm 22nd - 0.2mm and 0mm 23rd - 25.2mm and 27.2mm 24th - 25.0mm and 20.0mm 25th - 60.0mm and 57.5mm 26th - 54.8mm and 72.5mm 27th - 80.4mm and 56.0mm Totals = 319.6mm and 286.7mm And mostly good soaking type rain....I spread some bags of fertiliser around the yard and garden a few days ago. Perfect timing ! With the tropical low moving slowly away to the south east, the monsoonal conditions will ease in the next few days and we will revert back to afternoon storms and low to mid 30c's max temps.

From our local weather FB Page... "Good morning trendsetters.. Holy moly hasn’t that been a long 48 hours or so. What I got for Christmas and what I needed turned out to be total opposites... a pair of ugg boots, a woollen jacket and a new liver would have been appropriate I feel as Hotel Hannibal was booked out for the best part. Cold, yep cold is what long time Territorians are telling me and I tend to agree. Yesterday wasn’t much better than Christmas Day and today looks better but only marginally. Rain has been extensive and heavy over much of the northern Top End and now throughout the central and south west Top End, as our monsoon with an associated deep low crossed the coast on Christmas night. The low has become a little stubborn over the last 12 hours or so and going by radar, satellite and Doppler returns it’s actually tracked a little further on West overnight. It appears to be near Peppimenarti as we speak. The general consensus is that it will track east and that should start to happen today, but the longer the system stays put, the models start to get a bit jumpy ... and that’s when the fighting starts 😝 The satellite shows a very nice looking monsoonal cloud band and some BIG cells embedded in the thick cloud. Quite a mass of storms well north of the Kimberley caught my attention first thing this morning 🤔 So today looks much the same as yesterday with cool cloudy conditions and showers and rain periods easing during the morning about the NW Top End before getting a boost and redeveloping during the afternoon. The north Coast looks set to continue getting heavy showers and monsoonal squalls, esp the Arnhem coast and that includes our friends in Gove 🙄 Continuing showers, storms and rain areas near the vicinity of the low. Showers and storms will be gusty and of course localised heavy falls will continue. A number of warnings are still out with flood watches across the Top End and a severe weather warning for most of the Top End as well. So seems like a great day to stay off the roads and put the kettle on. .. Did some one say the cricket was on 🤔 Have a great day. .. will chat soon 👍

From a Pilkos Chat On Weather member ( and a BOM employee) over at Gove on the far north eastern corner of the NT. "It just keeps going and going! Nhulunbuy town has had another 113mm since midnight bringing us up to 406mm since Christmas. Gove Airport has had the third wettest 48 hour period on record (280.8mm) and only the second time in recorded history we've had two consecutive 100mm+ days. Showing no signs of letting up either! Even the Rio Tinto mine is looking like a giant swimming pool at the moment."

From a BOM employee over on Gove Peninsular "Another example for the Access C model archive. This was its prediction from this afternoon's run. It's crazy how good and accurate it is when it comes to storms!"

This is a huge storm system covering a large area of the Top End. The rings represent 10 klm distance from the Airport, so the blue rings are 30klm out. Can hear distant thunder from home.
