Sydney more than double Melbourne's temp but strong southerly on the way. ( Source: Weatherzone ) It's one of those days where it's hot in Sydney, cold in Melbourne, and Canberra is baby bear's porridge with a temperature roughly halfway in between and rather pleasant, thanks very much. At 2:10 pm on Thursday as we write this story: Sydney was 30.7°C Melbourne was less than half that at 13.5°CAnd Canberra was a comparatively mild 21.1°C You can see the effect illustrated below. Interestingly, the Sydney region was the hottest spot in the entire state of NSW on Thursday afternoon between 2 and 3 pm. So how long will the heat last? Not long. Indeed the Sydney heat should be well gone by dark, and will likely not even last until twilight now that Daylight Saving is with us. Around 4 or 5 pm, a strong southerly change will reach the city. This southerly has already roared through Ulalldulla, about two or three hours drive south of Sydney, dropping temps by around 10 degrees within a 20-minute period just before 2 pm. Southerly buster moving north along the NSW coast. Did you know? It's not that unusual to see huge afternoon temperature differentials between Sydney and Melbourne at this time of year, as cold fronts clip mainland Australia's southern coastline but struggle to penetrate northwards. Indeed almost to the day, on October 5 last year, we wrote a story about the 20-degree diff between the two cities. Today, the biggest gap appears to have been about 18 degrees, but it's still worlds apart! Enjoy the last couple of hours of 30-degree weather, Sydney, before a much cooler day tomorrow with maximums across the city in the low 20s.

^ At least MN is no longer in the center of the positive anomaly. Shitty pattern still but at least we seem to be going from early September weather to more late September/early October weather here this weekend. 58 F (14.4 C) here with a 57 F (13.9 C) dew point as of 7 am, high predicted today at 71 F (21.7 C) with cloudy skies and a 20% chance of showers. Looks like we're going into an active pattern. Sign of changes coming in two plus weeks?

The smoke is gone this morning! Finally! It was only here for a couple of days but that was a couple of days too long, especially at this time of the year! Some sweet blue skies this morning Now we're in for a stretch of pretty seasonal weather, looks like highs between 10C and 18C everyday with mostly sunny conditions. October is definitely off to a good start. I think this may end up being one of the nicest warm seasons we've ever had, temperature wise.

Warmth is fading away, min 9C and max 15C at Riga airport. Spectacular colors you got there. Fall is a big fail for me this year. Getting subtropical highland climate conditions over here.

High/low of 78/64 yesterday for a nice warm October day.
Nice pattern I’m in with periods of mild cloudy easterly flow alternating with Indian summer conditions.

60 F (15.6 C) with dense fog here this morning....today will be warm with a high of 76 F (24.4 C) predicted. We've got an active weather pattern coming up. We're actually under a "slight" risk of severe weather for tomorrow.
