Another subarctic day with a 13.7C high. Spring is proceeding like a Russian tank on an muddy Ukrainian field. Very slowly.

The Turku region really got the shortest straw today. Kronoby, which is opposite of Umeå, recorded an 18.1C high. Oulu 19.1C.

Minimum of 18.5°C @ Lariboisière hospital in central Paris this morning. Shouldn't be long before the first tropical night there.

Finally, for the first time this year the 20C mark has been surpassed in Riga after 3 p.m. This is the third latest 20C in the last 60 years. It was worse only in 1979 (14 May) and 1965 (6 June).

I left a sunny and warm Paris this afternoon. After Lille, the sky began to cloud over and once the Channel was crossed, it was all about low clouds and driving rain. How stereotypical.

Here in warm-témpérat Nouvelle Yorque strong high pressure is in control just to my north, so despite the easterly flow, it's been warm, sunny, and pleasant, into the 70s and dry the past 3 days, love this time of year. GFS bringing the first 90s of the year for me next weekend?

Got to 86 (30 c) today, but very dry with dews dropping into the teens in the afternoon. Relative humidity was as low as 7%. Was sunny early and felt quite hot but clouded over in the late afternoon, was quite pleasant with the clouds.
Goodland got to 97 (36 c) today, quite impressive for early May.

Oxelösund near Nyköping recorded yesterday's (and today's) high of 18.4'C at 20.00. Unusually late for being the 5th warmest high in the country. Umeå airport also recorded 18.7'C, the second warmest in the country, whereas my PWS only reached 17.0'C. Almost every day the last week has had a warmer high at the airport which suggests to me that my PWS is in fact more than adequate in terms of radiational shielding and ventilation.

It'd be great to see the first 90°F high(s) late next week and/or the following weekend here following the polar the past few days; EPS mean has highs in the mid to upper 80s for that timeframe. ECMWF's deterministic run is jumping the warmth bandwagon too:

It's the year without Spring so far across the PNW. Snowpack continues to pile up (now well above average) in the mountains as cool and wet conditions have dominated March, April and now May. Any rapid warmup in late May or early June could spell a disastrous spring freshet with flooding across the province.

First of all, I swear I did not edit this screenshot in any way. I was skeptical going into today, and my botevy cheap PWS that always runs too high on sunny days said a high of 91 F (33 C) so I was figuring 87-88, but nope, this was legit. A new date record by a long shot, and the warmest it's been this early in the year since 1934. Good performance all things considered.

Did we ever get lucky. Managed to dodge the heat afflicting Gayrope! I can imagine heat lovers would be crying into their beers about that though!
