Wet over the next week for the Southern U.S. Especially east TX, north LA, and south AR. Should alleviate dry conditions that have developed.

Blocking High Over The Southeast ( source: Weatherzone ) Weather systems in the mid-latitudes tend to move around the earth from west to east. A system that passes across Western Australia often moves across eastern Australia several days later. However, sometimes a weather system, such as a high, becomes stationary and stays in place for several days. Such a feature is called an atmospheric block because it blocks the usual west-to-east flow of the atmosphere. That is what we are currently seeing with a high centered near Tasmania, which became established around Thursday 19. This pattern is called a blocking high and can be seen in today’s MSLP chart. Image: Analysis chart for 4 am EST 22 May 2022 courtesy BOM Different atmospheric blocking events can cause a variety of impacts ranging from cold spells to heat waves, and from floods to short droughts. The current blocking high has been causing cold mornings in the southeast, favorable for fog and frost, with the BOM issuing frost warnings for Victoria and Tasmania over the past two mornings. At the same time, it has caused mild-to-warm conditions for the north and west of Australia. This can be seen in the following chart which shows the minimum temperature anomaly for Friday May 20. Image: Minimum temperature anomaly for 20th May courtesy BOM The high is also blocking cold fronts in the southeast, forcing them to move further south, keeping the southeast dry. At the same time, it is directing moist easterly winds from the Tasman and Coral Seas onto the east coast, fuelling showers, storms and rain. This can be seen in the rainfall totals of Saturday May 21 shown below. Image: Rainfall for 21st May courtesy BOM This high is expected to remain in place until a powerful cold front forces the high eastward over the Tasman Sea during Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th, allowing subsequent troughs and cold fronts to cross the southeast again and bring rain. You can read more about blocking highs and other climate influences at the BOM: www.bom.gov.au/watl/about-weather-and-climate/australian-climate-influences.shtml?bookmark=introduction

Ended up only reaching 91 F/33 C so a bit below the forecasts of 96 F and 94 F this week. Still undoubtedly a hot and humid day.
76 F/24 C with a dewpoint of 68 F/20 C at 9:00AM. Forecast high of 93 F/34 C with thunderstorms later as a cold front moves through. Back in the 50s tonight and 70s tomorrow.

Storms are developing over central France tonight. That system should die right in the ass when it arrives here. I've just heard thunder tho, there are some small cells ahead of the big ones.

So to recap this horrific failed cold snap: As of Thursday, we were supposed to get 3-4” of snow and Saturday had a forecast of 43/28 with Friday not much warmer. Let’s take a look at how that panned out. Snow? Nope, only a brief trace 40s f highs? Nope. Happened on Friday but the 7 PM day says fuck you so it wasn’t recorded and then Saturday was 10 f warmer than forecast. Freeze? Nope, 33 was as cold as it got both days. Probably the worst fizzer I’ve seen due to the duration of the underwhelming conditions and how varied they were as none of the exciting things happened. Not just 1 day in Shitchester that gets fucked by lake cooling or 1 storm dying in the ass but 3 days of this shit. I’d compare it to if the February 2017 warm spell hadn’t had a single 60 f day despite 4-5 being forecast as opposed to 1 infuriating day.

There is a vigorous, but beautiful cold front approaching. You can see that it will defeat that dreaded blocking high we're having over Tasmania (which is directing stratocumulus, damp crap towards us), where it will drive it to NZ. Conditions will clear by Thursday as the front approaches.

Notably cool in Tulsa and Dallas this afternoon: I knew that it was cool there, turned on the PGA Championship in Tulsa, and all the golfers were wearing long sleeves.
Meanwhile, it got into the lower 90s here on both Saturday and Sunday, and yesterday the line of storms fizzed. I'll take a fizzer this time of year.

Notably cool in Tulsa and Dallas this afternoon: We got hit by that too, and it was the same cold front that gave Colorado its snow. It made for a nice walk by Lake Thunderbird.
Today is even cooler, with the high so far being 57°F (14°C), and we've gotten 0.70" (17.8 mm) of rain.

Yeah I was shocked when they were reporting the weather conditions at the beginning of the final round. Pretty impressive for the end of May.

Thankfully the heat this weekend was short lived and we are getting a nice reprieve this week. Today topped out at 73 F/23 C with dewpoints in the 40s. Next few days will only be around 70 F/21 C.

Beautiful indeed today, I’ll take a stretch of dry 70s after those couple days of heat. The heat was nice, but can’t go wrong with ultra comfortable conditions in May.

The warmest day of the month with a high 21.7C in Riga. In other years, this was normal in April, not in May.
