Cool and breezy day with temps hovering the low 40s. Had some heavy rain and strong winds yesterday with a peak gust of 43 MPH. The high was a respectable 63 F/17 C but not as mild as points further east and south. It's been a very windy winter here.
Forecast of 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow.

A whole bunch of highways throughout the province (mostly in the south) were closed due to horrendous conditions caused by two straight days of intense winds and blowing snow. A couple highways are still closed tonight, but most have reopened. All of this comes after we had around 15 cm of snow last weekend. This has been by far one of the worst winters I can remember for road conditions here. Can't wait for spring to roll around and clear off all the snow and ice. I guess the one upside is that hopefully the melt from all of this snow will result in more moisture for the farmers in the spring, they really need it after last year's drought.

Today has been exciting weather wise. 41F and rain at 11am 62F and flat overcast at 3pm. The warmest temp since December comes under overcast skies (?) 50F and overcast at 6pm 61F and overcast at 8pm Now at 8:30 there's rain and temps in the upper 50's. Hourly updates for the airport: Currently there is a huge temperature range in the Milwaukee area. 40 to 66F (4 to 19C) in a 1 hour drive. This happens sometimes east to west due to the lake but it's not common to see a big difference north to south. Much of Wisconsin is getting rain and some thunder. The northern parts and the UP are seeing freezing rain, and further west in Minnesota there is heavy snow. On the radar, blue is snow, pink is mixed precip, and purple is ice A thunderstorm came through around 11pm that night (Saturday). Temps dropped from 61 to 53 (16 to 12). Thunderstorms aren't common in early March, and this one had some good lightning and thunder. On Monday, 2 inches of wet snow fell. Variability Cool and dry the next few days, nothing exciting in the forecast.

It's almost mid-March and I wake up to a -38C windchill... lovely And we still might have an hour or two of cooling left this morning, so good chance that windchill will drop into -40 territory. Thankfully the forecasts are showing a substantial and sustained warmup beginning Saturday.

Sunny, but high only 2.3C in Riga, because Russia is trying to steal our spring: Fortunately, the cold will be pushed away to the East in the coming days and the temperatures will be on the rise.

Very cold today, didnβt get out of the teens f in the afternoon. Picked up another 3.1β (8 cm) of snow too, snowed pretty much all day. Expecting another 1-2β tonight with near 0 f temps. Frigid again tomorrow before a quick warmup.

The North Queensland heatwave continues... "Thought y'all might be interested in this.... While we all in the Top End are having a good old sook ( none louder than those of us in the Northern Suburbs π€£ ) Well spare a thought for our fraternal brothers over on the east coast of Far North Queensland. And while of course the devastating and record breaking floods are being reported upon, FNQ and into the eastern NT are enduring a record breaking March heatwave that is, from a meterological perspective, highly unusual. Most tropical locations, especially coastal ones, vary very little away from the mean averages. So to have towns along the whole coastline from Rocky to Cooktown to be running between 5c and 7c ( both max and min ) above the means for the first 10 days of March is astounding climatically. As an example, Charters Towers has broken their previous March max temp record of 38.1c every day so far this month ! And running 9.0c above the monthly mean max temp ! Rockhampton is running 7.4c above the mean max, Mackay 5.0c above, Townsville 5c above both min and max temps, Ingham an incredible 7.8c above the monthly mean, Cairns relatively mild at 4.2c above and they've had 40mm of rain, lucky bastards, and Cooktown 5.3c above ! At least they've had some rain too - 50mm. So this event really is one for the record books ! ! Here they are, the figures for the first 10 days of March..." Charters Towers. Cairns. Cooktown. Townsville. Rockhampton. Ingham. Mackay. Queensland coast.

Perth's Record Summer Heat Spills Into Autumn ( source: Weatherzone ) Perth is struggling to shake off the shackles of its record-breaking summer with the city enduring another bout of extreme heat this week. A West Coast Trough is drawing air from the interior towards Australiaβs west coast this week, causing temperatures to soar in Perth. The city is expected to reach around 37ΒΊC on Thursday and 39ΒΊC on Friday, which is 8 to 9ΒΊC above average for early-autumn. While this heat is abnormal for this time of year, it has become familiar in the last few months after several heat-related records were broken in Perth during summer. Between December and February, Perth registered 32 days at or above 35ΒΊC and 13 days at 40ΒΊC or higher. These were both new summer records. Fridayβs maximum temperature in the high-thirties will be Perthβs fifth consecutive day above 34ΒΊC. The city hasnβt had five autumn days this hot for 25 years. Thursday night will also be noticeably warm in Perth, likely only dropping to about 24 to 25ΒΊC, which is about 7ΒΊC above average. Cooler westerly winds will develop over the west coast of WA, including Perth, from late Friday into the weekend as the trough starts to move inland. These onshore winds should keep the temperature under 30ΒΊC in Perth over the weekend and into the start of next week.

We have a shot at snow tomorrow. If it pans out, it would be the most significant snow I've seen in Norman in spring.

Very cold again today with a high of 23 (-5 c). Supposedly it got down to 0 (-18 c) this morning but Iβm suspicious since the AgMesonet station in the same spot only dipped to 5 (-15 c). Regardless, very cold for March.
Another 0.8β (2 cm) of snow fell last night, bringing the monthly total to 7.2β (18 cm) already. March is the snowiest month on average so not too surprising though.
Since New Yearβs Eve, the snow season has really picked up nicely. 10 snow events, about once a week which is almost ideal. Theyβve produced 41.8β (106 cm) which is also an average of over 4β an event, about where I consider it interesting snow.

We got a pretty deep maximim snow cover of 65cm this year, and while we've had mild weather for weeks now, I was surprised to see the snow depth near the airport station is still 47cm. Normally the airport and its nearby fields will actually have less snow cover with a quicker snow melt than the city because the wide open field makes the wind a lot stronger. However, when I was walking home from uni I was thinking the snow cover looked to be only 10-20cm in my area, which is why I was so surprised to see such a thick snow cover reading at the airport.

Well we hit -32C this morning (with a -38C windchill), hopefully (and very likely) our last time dropping this cold until next winter. Forecast shows us warming up solidly starting early next week, so fingers crossed that proper spring weather is actually on the way.
