It sucks, but the strong late March sun does do a number to the snow cover. Some bare spots already :/ well, im happy enough to have had the storm in the first place

animation of snow cover this season. Consistent snow cover didn't arrive till mid December. February had lots of off and on snow cover. March had the most snow of any month, but by now the Connecticut River valley is snow-free but almost everywhere else has snow

Much of the snow melted over the weekend but a new layer came down overnight. Sunshine is beating down on it with ever-increasing intensity, I'm hoping it will be gone soon.

Saw some light snow on the ground when I woke this morning. It was a little bit surprising since there was no such thing in the forecast but the high sun angle today has vaporized it even though temps have been limited to 1°C in the shade.

10 cm Trondheim. More like 50 cm in the elevated areas of the city.

Now 1 inch of snowfall forecast for Sunday 1 April, with a predicted max of 36F that day! Amazing.

Just piles left here—pretty much gone. Here too, thank goodness. Sadly, temps aren't showing up at all; it's -6.2°C right now at 12:37 am, and set to dive even further to beneath -10°C overnight. Having said that, it's clear skies so zero snow chance these coming few days and no ice days at all in the forecast. It's never happened here in April for decades on end so any snow from now on better be extremely brief. Both 2016 and 2017 saw snow flashes after April 15 though, with a half-blizzard around 26-27 April sometime 2016 being a proper low-point. High for that day was still something like 4-5°C though.

Early April almost always has 1-2 snows but it rarely stays for more than a few days. Lowest high in the forecast is 3 C so hopefully we’re done with ice days but there’s still no warmth and a whole lot of rain so barely any improvement.

Saw areas of snow still lying in the hills surrounding Buxton when I was on the train yesterday.

Is it like 25 % chance in any given year of an April snowfall where you live or even lower than that? Since lows can be below freezing I assume it might happen a couple/few times per decade? The chance of a trace is probably close to that, though it feels like much less. The last five: 23 April 2013 (trace, and an inch on the 2nd of May shortly after!) 5 April 2009 (supposedly trace, but not sure of the actual exact amount - I have no memory of this) 12 April 2008 (trace, in the form of light snow showers in the morning) 8 April 2003 (trace? uncertain) 15-17 April 1999 (trace on all three days) Actually measurable snow is far rarer. The 90s seems to be full of exceptionally cold Aprils, which skews the data considerably, but I think the 17-year gap between the most recent two illustrates the rarity well enough. 14 April 2014 (0.1 inch) 9-12 April 1997 (1.3 inches total, daily totals were 0.1, 1.1 0.1, trace) 14 April 1996 (1 inch) 5 April 1994 (2.6 inches) 3 April 1993 (0.5 inches) Snowiest April ever recorded is 1983, 7.2 inches from two separate snow events - 3.2 inches on the 4th, 1.5 on the 8th and 2.5 on the 9th (I assume this was an overnight snowfall). And a trace on the 14th and the 19th.
