Kenosha WWTP in the far southeast of the state, on the lakeshore, only saw 2.5 inches in January. South and east saw mostly rain from the two big storms. Seasonal snowfall there is only 5.9 inches which is a record low. With 45 years of full data on NOWData the lowest is 16.7 in 1967-1968. The area with 30 inches saw higher totals due to a lake effect snow band that dropped heavy snow in a small area. Kenosha WWTP has 9.5 inches at the end of March. Can they stay below 10? This year's snow season has been so long yet consistent. It started with extremely high snowfall in November, almost record breaking and by the end of November we had 50 cm. And ever since then we've pretty much been staying around 40-60 cm all the time. A steady plateau for over 4 months. I don't think I've ever experienced this long of a snow cover consistently above 35 cm.

Rain fell overnight with 30s temps earlier this week, but it's unlikely that we'll see snow soon.
I noticed I never followed up from last spring. Kenosha WWTP ended last winter with 9.5 inches of snowfall. I would have thought hat was impossible, less than 10 inches of snow in a winter in Wisconsin. The station is right along Lake Michigan's shoreline, near the southern border, basically the warmest place you could put a weather station in the state. But still...
A lot of the snow fell outside of winter. Only 3 days saw 1" of snow, and those were October 31, November 26, and March 22. Winter only saw 3 inches, whether you define winter as DJF or by the equinox (March 20). Lots of cold rain while it snowed to the north and west.
Totals for Kenosha WWTP 2023-2024 October 1.0" on 1 day. November 1.9" on 1 day. December trace on 1 day. Total precip of 2.69", no snow January 2.5" on 6 days + 3 trace. Total precip of 3.35", average high below freezing, and barely any snow February 0.5" on 1 day + 1 trace. Total precip only 0.45". March 3.6" on 1 day, the 22nd. April trace on 2 days. That 0-4" ended up as zero.
Total of 9.5" on 10 days of measurable snowfall, total of 17 days with snow falling. Previous low was 16.7 inches, average around 32 inches Snow cover days (1") - 13 total. March 22nd reported 4", the other days were all 1".
Milwaukee ended with 32", normal is 48.7. October 3.3" on 1 day + 1 day trace November 1.1" on 1 day + 1 day trace December trace on 6 days January 16.6" on 10 days + 5 trace February 2.3" on 2 days + 2 trace March 8.1" on 2 days + 3 trace. All from one storm on the 21st-22nd. April 0.6" on 2 days + 1 trace. 32.0". Average is 48.7

First decent snowfall of the year. A really special one for my family, my 8 month old daughter had a small sled ride and her first time playing in the snow!
