Epic snowfall in the Cascades today. Iโm going skiing today and Mt Hood got a foot of fresh powder overnight...

The heaviest totals from the 1895 snowstorm were close to the coast; I guess it was ocean effect. Not really that much snow in parts of north Louisiana. That looks like a classic body-of-water-effect-snow profile.

Umeรฅ's snow station hasn't reported any snow cover since the 8th of February . However, it looks like the snow cover has shrunk quite a lot. Seems to be only like 30cm. Low enough for there to actually be a chance of an early March end of the permanent snow cover. The snow is already gone underneath trees, and our forecast is very warm.

Most of it has melted here and there's no end in sight for the thaw.

We haven't even seen a frost for nearly three weeks never mind snow, I still wouldn't rule it out in March though.

From a peak of 40 cm we're now down to 17 cm. Lows are supposed to remain above freezing, so it will melt rapidly in the coming days.

Today's low of 3.9'C did a lot of melting. Some fields are down to as low as 10-15cm while others are still at 20-30cm. The first patches of lawn have started showing

The snow cover will retreat fast in the south and west the coming days, but mostly there's still a healthy amount.

Got about an inch of snow overnight here, not as much as I wanted but still a nice covering and everything is nice and white. Been a decent winter for snow here, up to 25.9" (66 cm) for the winter, about 40% above average to date.

^ You've lucked out more than Pittsburgh? 48" is still a solid amount. DC has actually gotten lucky compared to other I-95 corridor cities, think it has the most out of them even more than Boston lol.

Quite impressive that the woods north of town at a mere 30 m asl or so looked like this on the side of the road on Wednesday after taking 7-8ยฐC average highs for a couple of weeks:
Where the sun doesn't reach it feels like it lasts forever. Also, just look at all that mud! The snow was really deep in this part and since it's behind a roadblock that I took the cycle through given it's not open for cars until next month, there was zero maintenance in winter on that part. The result of that meant some places that were really shielded that still had full-on ice with water running on top of it. Rather cool experience! It was taken during sunset in the forest so maybe not the clarity of mid-day but it still goes to show how enduring snow patches are.
