not bad sari ...even with that piss poor December. Everyone was baffled by that month. November made it look like we were headed for another 2009-2010, and then after the big storm late in the month, winter just shut off and we got stuck in this weird 50/30 and sunny infinite loop. Then in early January it was like the atmosphere suddenly realized what season it was supposed to be, and then wintry conditions didn't let up until a few days into March. There were few warm spells and they were all pretty weak ones (sub-65F), which is unusual for a KC winter.

Wow, bulls-eye right over the city. That only happens in KC twice a century, and requires astral and planetary alignment and several ancient prayers, as happened in March 1912 and October 1996. I'm envious, if you can't tell, lol.

Data from Trondheim AP Værnes documents how days with snow on the ground have been reduced the latest decades here in the month of January, the coldest month.
January, days with snow lying on the ground:
1960-69: 28 days on average with snow on the ground (recorded in the morning) 1970-79: 23 days
1980-89: 24 days
1990-99: 17 days 2000-09: 16 days

Is that an average of 3 years, or did you have constant snow cover from late December to late March last winter? 3 months is a long time for constant snow cover. My average curve is probably not much different, but it would be shifted a week or two earlier I think.

The blue line is a 3 year average (only lived here that long). The black line averages that line +/- 5 days to attempt to come up with a snow cover average. It's rare to go over a month straight with coverage

Here's a graph I made of YVR's snowfall totals from 2009-2019 (averaging 23.7cm), which is significantly less than: 1971-2000 average snowfall: 48.2cm 1981-2010 average snowfall: 38.1cm Dotted lines are the running average and a linear trend line. Judging by the R 2 value, it's pretty variable.

Snowfall by decade:
1870s: 88.5” 1880s: 79.3” 1890s: - (missing March) 1900s: - (missing March) 1910s: 79.1” 1920s: 70.5” 1930s: 65.8” 1940s: 63.5” 1950s: 89.3” 1960s: 89.4” 1970s: 110.8” 1980s: 85.4” 1990s: 104.5” 2000s: 106.7” 2010s: 95.9”
Surprisingly variable for decadal averages but there’s a consistent upward trend.
1991-2019 averages 102.1” while 1921-1950 averaged 66.1”.
That’s a full 54% increase in just 70 years.
Unlike the alarmists say, global warming is correlated with an increase in snow and there will be no sharp drop off anytime soon.

Just went through all Yellowknife data from 1942-present to see how many/which years had accumulating snowfall in June. There were quite a few years which received a trace but I have omitted those.
Years with snow in June in Yellowknife (in cm)
1957 - 0.6 (2 days) 1967 - 3.3 (2 days) 1970 - 3.0 (1 day) 1982 - 1.1 (2 days) 2011 - 0.2 (1 day)
That's 5/77 years or a 6.5% chance of accumulating snowfall in June. Falling but not accumulating snowfall in June I'd guess just by looking at the data, it's ~25% chance on any given June, maybe 33%.
