Two day storm total of 4.6โ (11.7 cm) between Sunday and Monday.
Not very impressive, but still nice as snow has been lacking this season.
More flurries today, supposed to get several inches later.

Rain has fallen onto all the snow outside and pavements are now like ice rinks... fancy a slide to a fractured tailbone anyone? This is the phase I fuckin despise after it snows. That's why I always like a very fast transition to mild after any snow, to avoid this glaze phase as much as possible.

SMHI indicates that 9.2 mm precipitation fell this past 24 hours, all of which as snow. That would render at least 9 cm of actual snow. Really felt that way when being outside too. When there had been no ploughing it was tough work getting forward with the bike being led alongside.

It's snowing proper hard outside right now. Could be a fun night. 2" of snow now and it's really powdery and light. Saw a car slipping around trying to climb a hill when I went out.

What's the current temp? Must be quite cold if it's powdery and light.

Now it's actually about 0ยฐC. Not sure why it's like that, but the snow that was falling when I went out was more round solid pellets rather than snowflakes, so that could be it.

Only 1.1 in actually. All of it from yesterday, we had a couple of snowflakes before that, but nothing more

It has snowed quite a few times here already this winter, but always at above freezing temps and it never lasted longer than about 2 hours. Very disappointing.

The probability of at least 50 % of the ground covered by snow on the morning of Christmas Eve (Dec 24th) in cities in Norway So a 60 % chance of white Christmas here, 70 % in Oslo and 25 % in Stavanger. This is based on data for the last 40 years. The last 10 years would give less probability. Ca 8-10 cm dry snow on the ground today, but warmer weather is forecasted from monday onwards. This December has really been one of the snowiest winter beginning I can remember, up to now we have already got more snow and more days with snow on the ground than in many of the past few years as a whole! During the first few days of December we already had a quite remarkable snowfall with about 20-30 cm of fallen snow, which for this period of the year is already a lot (some pictures about it in here). The following week was cooler than usual, so snow melted really slowly and up to the 8th of December there still was a solid snow layer on the ground. Then last weekend we had a second, even more impressive, snowfall with brought up to 40-50 cm of snow at my altitude (about 650 m) and up to 1.5m in the high part of my valley (altitudes above 1300 m). Now you could wonder: why don't you show us some pictures earlier? And why you are writing it in such an un-enthusiastic way? Well, last week I was not at home because I was out for a business trip for all the week, and so I've just missed the most impressive snowfall of my place during the last 10+ years And because, when I was working, my sister started to send me pictures like these (these are taken more or less during a break after the first day of snowfall, it went on for another whole day) Really impressive also the pictures posted by our local online newspapers from the high part of the valley, like: The little deer saved ski instructors [1]A couple of pictures from Bardonecchia: [2]Endless problems with transports [3]Today the view from my place is still like this: Which also means that we have been having snow on the ground for more than two consecutive weeks, which is really rare here at my place.

Not sure, I reposted that image from netweather.tv, where someone was using it. But we didn't get 12" of snow. More like 5.

The strong temperature increase, together with strong wind conditions and heavy new precipitations (both rain and snow) caused a really high avalanches risk for these days over the most of the Alps, in particular on the west side. ^ the legend says: 5: really strong (avalanche risk) 4: strong 3: significant 2: moderate 1: weak Map source: ilmeteo.itThe most critical situation seems to be in Cervinia, a really famous resort at an altitude above 2000 m, where about 10 000 tourists are blocked because of the intense snowfall and the high avalanche risk along the road that connects the village to the bottom of the valley. ^ a picture from Cervinia [1]
