Which places do you wish had official weather stations?
1. Times Square - Would be great to see the epic heat island effect of all the buildings and the huge crowds
2. Somewhere in Eastern Lima. I would like to see the difference in sunshine hours between the port of Callao and the eastern parts of the city. Many times it can be sunny in the eastern part of the city while Callao is covered by a fog
3. Machu Picchu would be epic with the summer monsoons and thunderstorms they get
4. Wish the islands around Italy had weather stations. I bet the climate of places like Lipari or Capri would be legendary

•My suburb •A station directly on Lake Ontario—would be interesting to see the cool/snowy microclimate •A city center station to see the UHI •The top of pinnacle hill, the highest point in the city limits
That’s what I can think of for now.

Which places do you wish had official weather stations? Basically a few locations around Nyköping and places around Eureka, California, entirely for personal interest reasons Urban Örebro, Norrtälje, Skellefteå, Umeå ( Babu ), Jönköping and downtown Kiruna wouldn't hurt either! Also a snow-counter in Tromsö would be cool as hell! Lakeside places like Motala and Katrineholm would be nice too. Weather stations in my county are wrongfully placed, man.

Camden Square and London Weather Centre should be reopened, as well as a new station in inner west London. There is a station at the Olympic Park but it only has a few years of data.

I'd like a coastal sunshine station along our eastern coast. Preferably at every other latitude. And on Holmön holy Shit. Get your act together. Why is there no coastal sunshine recorder between Luleå and Falsterbo? (Well okay, Karlskrona got one in 2009 but still, that's not the east coast)

I'd like to see more stations with sunshine recorders at various altitudes going up Zugspitze and other mountains in different climate types to see what effect altitude has on cloud cover.
Coming from my climate with hills and small mountains that get cloudier the higher you go up them it's so alien to me how in the Alps higher up often means sunnier because you're above the cloud base.

Snow is recorded in Tromsø at the met.office 100 m asl. You can look up every day (morning). www.yr.no/place/Norway/Troms/Troms%c3%b8/Troms%c3%b8/detailed_statistics.html?spr=engFor instance, 98 cm snow on the ground on April 1th and 37 cm on May 6th. This station has a little deeper snow cover than the city center in Tromsø. Would like weather stations downtown Trondheim and Oslo, and a station recording snow depth up near/in the city hills here (at least 200 m asl). Also a weather staion in Melhus south of Trondheim. And in Reisa valley in Troms, and in Narvik town, and Steigen. And on mt Everest...

I know it's not possible because of shifting ice etc, but I'd like to be able to see climate data for the North Pole as well.

^^ true. the north pole is also in desperate need of a weather station.
a weather station on top of mt. kilimanjaro or at other equatorial high altitude places would be interesting too.

Ilomantsi Hattuvaara Ilomantsi Haukivaara Ilomantsi Kirvesvaara Ilomantsi Kontiovaara Ilomantsi Lutikkavaara Ilomantsi Tykkylänvaara

More seriously, Jyväskylä centre. It's crazy that a city of that size only has a frost-hollow airport station not even in the muncipality. Boke.

Donar, do you know if Funtensee has an official DWD weather station? The Wiki article says a private station recorded -45.9C there once and a DWD station recorded -44.0C the same day, but they still give the official German record low temperature as -37.8C at a different place. Is the DWD station there not official then? de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funtensee#KlimaEither way, it would be an excellent place for an official station, I've heard that in perfect conditions it could get to below -50C.

I'd like to see some stations in the frost trap valleys in the mountain range north of Oymyakon.

There is an official DWD station but without open data for the public. Seems like the -44 °C is not recognised as the official record low because Funtensee is a frost hollow and therefore not representative enough. Here is the text: www.dwd.de/DE/wetter/thema_des_tages/2017/2/16.htmlWould be very interesting to see the data indeed! Someone on another forum claims he had worked at the private station and it recorded below -50 °C for 30 hours and the temp fell down to -58 C (maybe not trustworthy )

I'd like to see a weather station above 5000m altitude near the peak of Denali. Apparently there's an unofficial one up there which has gotten down to -70C! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denali#Weather_station@giorny: Midtown has no weather station but Wall Street (downtown) does: its code is KJRB. It demonstrates UHI very clearly if you compare with KNYC (Central Park) for example. It rarely gets below 70F in July (even at night) and the record low is 7 F which was set 2 weeks ago. If I remember correctly it was installed in 2016.

What a bullshit reason for not recognising it as the record, pretty much anywhere that gets a cold record will be in a microclimate that's not representative of the wider region. What's the point in having a weather station on Zugspitze for that matter then, what is that representative of?

In easternmost south-east Estonia, conditions are a bit more continental there. One hundred years ago there was an official station, not now any more.
