The 1st of May is the traditional start of the Northern Australian 'Dry Season', with little, if any, rain expected between now and the 1st of October. Glorious sunny days with not a cloud in the sky, balmy temps 18c-32c and dp's below 20c. Also hordes of scantily clad Eurotrash backpackers ( now that Covid ain't a thing anymore ) wandering the streets and permanent waterholes/swimming spots.... ahhh, its enough for old fellas to wind the clock back back 30 or 40 years to a simpler time... lol... but as usual, I digress... While we all love the green wet season, the 'dry' is a blessed relief from the stifling heat and humidity of the 'build up' and the 'wet'. And magically, the 1st of May has delivered with sub 20c dp's this afternoon... and I have the irrigation running in the garden; a sure sign the 'Dry' has arrived...

I wonder if the predicted max temps will happen ? If so, would be the first 35c days since 12th Dec '22. And the first May +35c since 2016 when there 4 such days. Since 1941, only 27 May days have reached 35c at the Airport. 1941-1999 = 16 days 2000-2022 = 11 days

11C seems rather chillly for Gunn Point in May. How far inland is the station?

11C seems rather chillly for Gunn Point in May. How far inland is the station? Funny you should ask... my son only an hour or so ago also questioned the reading... he thought the AWS is playing up. The site itself is probably only a mile as the crow flies from the coast on a peninsular, so it does come across as being a bit on the low side....otoh, an Admin bloke, Nikko, ( Pilko's Chat On weather FB Group ) lives about 600 meters from the BoM's AWS and his Davis 2 reads within 0.2c of the official equipment consistantly both max and min temps at all times of the year. So, yeah, likely legit.... *EDIT: well I think the instrumentation is playing up... the DP's and RH% are deffo not right, so I'm also now questioning the min this morning ( although it is plausible with other sites on the outskirts of Darwin recording 12c mins )

Been a while since I've seen or can remember DP's this low this early in the dry season. Dry as a dead dingo's donger outside... The potted plants sure know about it.
