Nov 21. is the last day of the year that you can see the sun in Tromsø, a short glimpse around noon if the sky is clear. This is Tromsø on Nov 22 - today - around noon. I took this picture with my iphone. This is as light as it gets up there now. And of course, this image is straight from the camera. According to yr, the snow depth is 8 cm in Tromsø. Seems less downtown. Recording of snow depth is at 100 m asl where the met. office is. Temperature ca -3C. Tromsø recorded 1478 sunhours in 2017. Not a single minute sun in Jan and Dec, and only 5 hours in Nov. But 200 hrs or more in 4 months: Apr, Jun (307), Jul and Sep. You seem there a lot, for work?

The day has arrived. Today is the, or among the windiest of the year with a forecast 10m/s (at times as much as 12m/s), and 50mm of precipitation, 20mm of which will fall as snow until the temp will rise to 6'C around the afternoon. These were taken in the morning, before the peak when only about a third of the snow precipiation had fallen. As we woke up and went out to let the dog do his business. The door hangs a decimeter off the 15 cm porch. 40 cm snow drift. You can't see much else than snow. This one's pretty much straight out of the camera. This one's edited to show the terrain of the snow. Very blatant easterly wind, so I'm guessing it's sea-effect-snow off the Baltic. In the city there will be approximately 30cm of snow. Then it's 10m/s 6'C and 30mm rain for two days. Wonder if the snow will melt completely or not.

Before and after You can see the dog's footprints just like dinosaur fossiles. And even though the temperature hasn't even dipped above freezing for 5 days now, the frozen lake looks pretty wet. Turns out the ice is still there as thick as ever, but with about 25 cm of slush on top. I think the water might come from the nearby creek which must've poured some water on top of the ice, and the snow would've soaked all up making it slowly spread.

Lot of snow this morning! It has been a while since the last time we had a decent snow fall so early in the winter! Really precise snow dept measures My cat looked a little bit confused. It is not the first time he sees snow, but I don't know if he remembered it from last year... Some other pictures from around my place: This time it snowed also at really low altitudes, even in Turin! Here there is a picture of it (not mine but shared by La Repubblica)

Wow Urania! That's a proper snowfall there. And I'm happy for you and Ral both. Nice fall colors. Two days ago even the city square got a hint of winter. This is quite fun. It's a small hut where for the next few weeks, a few santa's little helpers will reside, and as you put your present on the left side, it will come out on the right side all wrapped up and ready, complete with a funny little rhyme. These were taken by my SO yesterday in Tavelsjö. The temp dropped from like 0'C to -10'C in a couple of hours whereas the city stayed mostly the same. The fog was rolling in. The poles are what, like 50 meters apart? Pretty dense fog. I got home a little later and couldn't take as neat pictures of it. Lots of inversion stuff going on the last two days. Today we went to a yule feast close to Lycksele and on the way there the temp of the bus would change from -8 to -4 and back in a matter of 5 minutes, and from 0 to -4 and back just as quickly on the way back. We also had freezing rain towards the end, windshields covered with ice and all. This is the kind of thing we're talking about. If it's a frost hollow or simply a case of inversion due tondifferent altitudes I don't know. And also, a game of can you spot the frost hollow? On our journey we stopped by in Vindeln to drop off the dog at SO's grandma's. The fact that I dislike snow does not negate the fact that it was pretty. Though not as spectacular as in Italy.

Quality not the best today, don't know whether it was mobile camera, while being during civil twilight and cold/hazy or not but nvm... I took a ride 7 km east to Sjösa, a small village NE of Nyköping, near another Baltic Sea inlet. Proper frost hollow too. I've frozen in bloody August out there. The first one is a place of self-deletion that Y-man has banned! Six minutes before and nine minutes after one could choose to self-delete at this very spot! I know the train tables and I also saw both on my way there and back Boke. This is also the former station house, now converted into a residential home. Better not live there if you're depressed! ... now for the more weather-related ones! The creek not yet frozen! ... and Sjösa today maded a heavy frost! Hugs for watching

It's pretty nice that we've got large windows on my job so I can snap pictures of the sunset while I'm working. 13:20 13:45, fog starting to emerge. 15:00, quite a bit of fog now. We had what I assume was a pretty strong aurora. Couldn't tell because of the supermoon imposed twilight. Just look how fucking bright the ground and sky is compared to my other aurora shots. That's all from the god damn super moon. The aurora was directly overhead, and it was still visible in the astronomical twilight, so it must've been a pretty strong aurora indeed. But stupid moon ruins it completely. Look at this fucking moon. Really super, you can only barely even tell there's an aurora there if you squint hard enough. All these were handheld mobile shots. Should give you an idea of how bright both the moon and the aurora were. Full Res

Sunset at 1:20 but still bright at 3:00. Must be weird. The actual sunset was 13.58. The last picture was taken right at the end of civil twilight (although I guess the snow helps), and with a shutter speed a hundred times less than the middle picture. I think it's weirder that the sun takes 40 minutes to set after hiding behind the tiniest of hills/mountains pretty far away. Less than a degree off the ground or something like that.

We didn't get an aurora this night. We got this halo instead. Meh, I'd rather have an aurora.
