what's the snow depth? looks like 20cm or something. Not sure what it was on the ground, but the snow that had accumulated on the bench and table on one of the photos looked between 20-30cm to me. Possibly even a fraction more. It had snowed for 2/3 days with highs of about 2C and freezing nights, so just kept building up. The sun melted a lot of the exposed stuff on trees and roofs today, though.

It looked like a bit more than we got in Buxton. The snow band was further south than here for the most part and we got the lighter bits only.

Snowed a lot in Tavelsjö. This happens when you go out on the field to let the doggy poop. Looks pretty pretty though. Woodpecker pecking at poles. Wonder if there's any food there or not. Also notice how all the snow is on the south-facing side. Means the snow was blowing from the sea. At first I thought this alder was a wild larch. I mean come on, why shape yourself like a conifer if you're broadleafed? Full res:

I forgot I'd taken this picture. I measured the snow depth and it's about 48cm... It's more than the maximum of many of our last years.

good timing getting post-sunset glow. How sunny has your weather been? I think that was the only sunny day in December. There may have been a couple of days that were only partly cloudy though. Which is kind of ridiculous since we haven't been above average either. Generally clouds = mildness Edit: So apparently the first week had three clear days. Other than that I was right. And I don't need timing. That glow lasts for like an hour both in the morning and the evening. This was morning.

If it wasn't obvious, most of the brick buildings are apartment buildings or mixed use buildings with stores at street level and offices and residential above. Usually from late 1800s or early 1900s. Detached houses and small multifamily (2-4 units) are typically wooden.

we haven't had a brown grass stage yet; we went from dull green to snow covered. Usually December is snow-free and brown

We'd need a deep freeze to turn brown, if the ground becomes hard and frozen, grass will turn brown. Actually, checking old photos, often a dull green for much of December. Turns brown usually by the end. Main weirdness is the early snowfall where the snow stuck rather than melted. Curious what color the grass will be once it melted.

strange to see bare deciduous with tropical looking vegetation. Grass doesn't look that bright green, I assume that's from low rain?

Grass can really get burned out here after long dry periods in spring though. I kind of like the look, the contrast between the tropical and the deciduous is cool imo, I just wish there was more deciduous... Starting to feel tropical out again unfortunately, 74F with a 61F dew right now.

I don't care for the combination, but I get sick of bare vegetation; probably would feel differently if I lived in Florida

after hearing Lommaren post about riding in the cold so much, thought I should give it another chance. Not much ice and snow so hard to compare. short bike ride on Sunday. Was 29°F (-2°C). Don't usually bike in that cold, but wanted to get out and move a bit. Town is nice enough to plow the bike path, some ice patches lingered felt cold on my face and hands since my gloves weren't thick. After a couple of miles, blood was moving harder and I warmed up. Close to sunset slight downhill meant my hands were getting cold, but I only had 1.5 miles left

That first pic looked like a really awkward spot to ride through nei Better hope no downhill turns in that...

Can anybody explain to me how on earth the snow is stuck in to this street lamp in a spiral??? And yesterday was slippery. Though most places are graveled. This tree is more balls than log if you know what I mean ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) This morning I saw the first glimpse of blue sky in ages. Seeing the actual sun shining through your window is a bloody rare thing on the winter solstice here. Maximum angle is 3° and the cloudiness is about 30%. Most of the horizon is obstructed for at least 3° in the city. I couldn't feel it in my face but I could feel it in my eyeball. This creek has withstood our cold November and December.
