northwestern Suffolk; near Greenlawn, NY. Mentioned it when I posted the Mariah Carey song on the Christmas Song thread. Ah, never realized you were a Lawn Guylander. Much warmer down there than in Massachussetts for sure[/quote] thought I mentioned it a number of times in the shoutbox. Maybe it just seemed like I liked to talk a lot about Lawn Guylanders?

Epic ocean-effect snow per the GFS, not something you see very often; Cape Cod is the only place that gets ocean effect snow often in the US; it's getting some, more further out to sea

Warmer in Nain (Northeast Labrador) than in Greensboro NC right now needs a map from the GFS using tropicaltidbits current regional temperatures

a more global look on the coldest day tomorrow [or at least one of the coldest]. High pressure at the center of the cold airmass and local midday surface temperatures in ยฐF

Oh shit, now they're predicting we're not gonna get above freezing here until January 7. WTf?! Keep in mind the average high in NYC this time of year is like 40F, you need to be below average and then some in order to stay below freezing for long periods of time. Even during February 2015 we never stayed more than five days in a row below freezing

Erie, PA had 60.5โ (154 cm) of snow on the last 2 days!
They now have 99.5โ (253 cm) for the month, the same as Rochester averages for an entire year!

Even during February 2015 we never stayed more than five days in a row below freezing The extreme minimums aren't close to February 2015 cold but it's more consistent cold; February would bounce back and forth between "normal cold" and "extreme cold". Will be interesting to compare. Here's Amherst. Four day stretch in mid-february was similar max-wise, but that's only four days below 20ยฐF. There was a near-thawing break just before and after and next week's forecast Six(!) days below 20ยฐF, minimums aren't as extreme though. And no sign of a warm-up to around 30ยฐF. Diurnal ranges are lower. And for NYC. Cold snaps didn't last as long, that four day stretch wasn't as consistently cold. And of everything was around 10ยฐF warmer forecast

It seems much more consistent and I guess lame than February 2015. I'm looking at the graph and at least it seems like it will still be very sunny. What was impressive about 2015 was the length of this cold snap, it lasted from January until like mid-March, and then after a brief warmup continued on into April. February 2015 is well documented, but what people don't realize is that March 2015 was just as insane, one of the top-5 or top-10 coldest months ever in the Northeast.

Yep, March was extremely cold for March. Except didn't reach the extreme temperatures of February 2015; extreme cold for March is like a typical January, maybe a couple degrees colder.

Could be worse. Could be Binghamton ugh yeah! Here it's gonna be sunny at least, Binghamton looks like a colder Shetland on the other hand Binghamton is forecast to be cloudy on the coldest 5 days. It's an arctic, dry airmass so it should be sunny but the mountains and the great lakes create cloud after a cold air mass passes over. My home will have similar temperatures but will be sunny everyday except one. Syracuse looks worse; no sun to January 3rd. Pittsburgh has some cloudy days mixed in but isn't as bad. So, for cloud during arctic cold in the winter, I think it's the Great Lakes

That would legit be in my Nightmare Climate lol

February 2015 was the coldest month of record here. 6 hours above freezing for the whole month. The next week looks consistently cold, but not extreme.
