How many degrees below average was it? In Binghamton it was 12F below average, in Syracuse it was a stunning 17F (!!!) below 14.2 below average here. Averaged 20.7/3.6. Lows slightly more below average than the highsโpretty unusual.

A low chance of a small amount of freezing rain here tomorrow morning. Are you heavily impacted by this cold wave in relative terms too I guess? Northerlies tend to go kind of unsheltered straight down to Louisiana...

Northerlies tend to go kind of unsheltered straight down to Louisiana... Yeah, temps should be a good bit below normal for the next week and beyond. For the next 10 days Wunderground shows nothing above 51F (11C) for highs. It also shows a high of 33F (1C) on New Year's Day, almost an ice day. The GFS model has been pretty consistent in showing frozen precip in Louisiana for New Year's.

Wow, the forecast is quite remarkable. There is NO temperature above freezing in our forecast, as far out of Friday, January 5, as per Accuweather. Looks like Montreal weather or something... e.g., 23/9, 21/10, 26/13 for Sun, Mon, Tues, respectively (that falls between -3C and -13C, for Celsius users). Looking forward to Saturday. Looking like a snow day

13 F/-11 C at 8:30PM after a high of 22 F/-6 C. Lows do look a little more impressive...hovering in the low single digits F much of the next 7 days. Highest temperature in the forecast is only 22 F/-6 C. Crazy cold. Most days look sunny but Friday and Saturday will be both cold and cloudy with possible snow.

Coldest 7 day periods for Amherst, MA. Date is the last day of the seven day period. Max was the mean daily maximum of the period, min was the mean daily minimum of the period, mean obviously the average of the two. February 2015 was either the coldest or second coldest month on record, but its coldest wasn't as cold as many earlier ones, Feb 2015 oscillated back and forth between extreme cold and merely cold and the daily maxima never were that extreme. So, where will next week end up?

If anyone's interested in finding their coldest [or warmest] weeks for the favorite station, let me know. Would be best for me to do other stations after figured out how to do one.

^ You said it. Today was NYC's coldest December daily maximum since 1989!
The morning low of 13F was also the coldest air temperature since winter of 2015-16.
Edit: O, just realized Warszawa said the same exact thing above. Not sure if I believe that 14F max though, last time NYC had a max that cold was 1994. I expect it will moderate as we get closer.

If it's gonna be super cold, it might as well break records. No point in stopping 2F or 3F short of setting a record cold, especially cause 12F feels same as 15F lol

NYE will be the peak of the cold snap, slightly colder than tonight. Today's maxes and mins
