Last year at this time it was much more seasonable (about 20 degrees F warmer). Highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s. December 27th was a random warm day with a high of 57 F/14 C...December 27th this year was 21 F/-6 C (36 degree F swing).

Mixed emotions after January 7th. Some forecasts suggest seasonable, other forecasts predict more mammoth cold blasts for the Northeast. I'm mostly fine with the cold in January, but not when its 20-25F anomalies, this is a bit overkill lol. Let's keep it to 20F and above guys

Now that we're achieving this ridiculously low highs, let's get some record breaking minimums. Subzero F for NYC.

Let's keep it to 20F and above guys I'd prefer either mid to upper 20s with some decent snowstorms to get a winter wonderland landscape. Or go in all in warmth for sunshine + highs in the mid 40s to 50s for tolerable winter cycling and just walking weather. Hoping to re-visit the Whites, so no extreme cold but no warm rain + freezes to create a steep ice sheet.

I prefer a powerful but short cold blast as opposed to a moderate cold blast that lasts a long time. February 2016 was pretty nice, not really a cold month but had that weekend where the temperatures fell to 0F. I'd sign up for a repeat of that February any day. Better than May 2016 where we had three weeks of annoying cold that is not even gonna be remembered cause of relatively warm minimums

It's pretty impressive for this area to be in such a deep freeze for several days in a row.

I prefer a couple of exciting heat blasts instead of getting something like Miami where everyday is 88-89F

Before you guys whip out your cocks too early, December 1989 was followed by an extremely warm January and February. To show you how extreme it was, December was about 12F below average and the winter season still finished above average lol
