Im outside right now so cant give source, but you can find it on the NOAA page. Look up the temperature departures for the 16/17 winter months for Seattle, and then look at the departures for Portland. Weird. And then look at the historical yearly temperatures. Bizarre. Has something happened to the Seattle station?

The month is averaging 31.8/15.9 through 26 days.
Considering we had the coldest first week of January on record, the month could still finish above average! The highs likely will, but the lows could drag it down to slightly below average. Even then, probably less than 0.5 F below average.
5 days, barring an major forecast overshoot, reached 50 (10 C) this monthโthe most since 2013.
BTW, December 2017 failed to reach 20 (-7 C) on 7 days. Thatโs tied for the 3rd most on record and the most since 1989!

Temperature departures for Dec 2016-Apr 2017, and their historical rank
Portland December: -3.2F (8th coldest) January: -7.9F (7th coldest) February: -3.0F (11th coldest) March: -0.6F April: -1.6F
Seattle December: -2.6F (13th coldest) January: -4.1F (15th coldest) February: -2.1F (20th coldest) March: -0.5F April: +0.3F
Portland's data only goes back to 1941 so that's where I limited Seattle to, for a fair comparison. This is weird, why is Portland getting such large negative departures compared to Seattle? Aside from the past winter, Seattle pretty much has no 21st century months anywhere near the cold records, while Portland actually seems to be getting very cold months in recent times. Out of the past 10 Decembers in Portland, four of them (!!!!) have been nearly record cold

Seattle and Vancouver do better when we get an arctic high sliding down from the Yukon. Last time this occurred was Jan 2012. We used to see that kind of pattern once or twice per winter but now it's been 6 years since our last one.

Has something happened to the Seattle station? here's the temperature departures for the region that winter. Difference isn't huge, so it was one of the colder winters show how low variability the Pacific Northwest is

The latest GFS run shows impressive cold next Monday morning. I dont like this run very much. Is there a 'reset' button? It's still a week out so things could change. Though cold anomalies look likely in the northern states, especially the upper Midwest in NOAA's 6-10 day outlook. Less certain down here in the south.

The Seine river in Paris has reached its highest level and water levels will slowly start to decrease from now on - until the next rain, that is. I've checked the fall/winter 1909-1910 rainfall stats for Paris (January 1910 is the benchmark Seine river flood) and, well, the stats are nothing impressive at all. Oct 106.1 mm Nov 21.2 mm Dec 89.4 mm Jan 79.6 mm It was chillier, maybe frozen soils and snowpack thaws upstream explain things a bit, dunno. Couple pics from the last few days:
