Today will be the last mild day for a while, more stupid cold incoming.
But on the bright side, thereโs only 4.5 more weeks of winter.

which would you prefer to be in? Cloudy Mt. Washington or sunny Mt. Washington? Or partly sunny blue sky is the most cheery. But dull. Partly cloudy is the winner, IMO

Long Beach Airport, California reached 91ยฐF (33ยฐC) today, Los Angeles Airport reached 89ยฐF (32ยฐC). Both within a mile or two of the Pacific Ocean. Temperature and Dewpoint at Long Beach Los Angeles map of today's maxes setup created the hottest temperatures along the coast. Inland deserts were colder. Typical of Santa Ana wind episodes, though the winds are calm now via this weather map

a tale of 4 forecasts at 42ยฐN in the northeast + up further north. How much cloudier is Bunghole? Giorbanguly probably has already done similar comparisons. First here's gloomy Binghamton my location in interior New England at the same latitude not that sunny, but it's a cloudy setup this week. Still, more sun breaks than Binghamton. Temperatures look similar ยฑ a few degrees. Boston has slightly warmer lows but this week is similar to me sunshine-wise are there cloudier places than Binghamton in the Northeast? Yes! 1700 feet in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Really cold and cloudy! Northern Vermont and New Hampshire has quite cloudy winters

Im outside right now so cant give source, but you can find it on the NOAA page. Look up the temperature departures for the 16/17 winter months for Seattle, and then look at the departures for Portland. Weird. And then look at the historical yearly temperatures. Bizarre. Has something happened to the Seattle station? here's the temperature departures for the region that winter. Difference isn't huge, so it was one of the colder winters show how low variability the Pacific Northwest is It was one of the colder winters in the past 30 years. That's what people fail to mention. That only highlights how waterted down our climate has gotten. It was nowhere near what our climate has produced in the past. We simply haven't seen any cold months (to our standards) post 1993 or so. For example, Vancouver failed to hit -10C last winter, something which occurs 1.6 times per year per 1981-2010 averages. In addition, our coldest month last winter (December) averaged 0.9C, while our coldest month on record (January 1950), averaged -6.3C. Big difference!

gloomy this morning, edge of a coastal system that's dumping snow in southeast Massachusetts. When the storm track is closer to land in the winter, southeast Massachusetts gets rain as it's closer to the warm side. And central Massachusetts and Boston suburbs get the most snow. Today

Bunghole is indeed much cloudier than the same locations in New England. It's astonishing. Not only is Upstate New York much colder and cloudier compared to other locations around the globe, but it's even cold and cloudy by Northeast US standards! Very few places can combine soulcrushing cloudiness with bone-chilling temperatures the way that Upstate New York can

no snow from this storm; just a gloomy day with bland, blank gray skies. Upcoming model forecast; the really serious cold mostly misses us, but it's too close for comfort; a small change could mean another arctic blast though not as long lived as the early January one

We had a nice snowfall last night and this morning.
6.3โ (16 cm) had fallen at the airport as of 1 PM.
This is currently the snowiest January since 2010 and with another 2โ would be the snowiest since 2005.

With yet another snowless January in the bag, it has now been 7 years since Vancouver saw a January with at least average snowfall.
