NYC has never had a March stay above freezing. No freezing temperatures in the forecast for NYC at all. Would be nice if this was the March without a freeze Weโve only had 3 marches (1903, 1942, 2010) without an ice day lol. Would be impossible to not get a freeze in March. Hell, only one April hasnโt had a freeze here and that was 140 years ago. Shows how much warmer NYC is. Not an issue for me since I donโt mind cold nights, but an average high in the 50s or even high 40s and a few days in the 70s would be great. Impossible unless we get repeat of 2012 or 2016. Spring is when I want warmth more than ever, Id be happy even with 50F. The second half of February has been great, I want more of that NYC really is way warmer, which explains why Binghamton's climate was such a shock to me. That said Rochester is probably the warmest big town in Upstate NY, no? Unlike Buffalo or Syracuse it doesnt get as much snow, and seems like it's in a good position to receive powerful heat waves from the south

Rochester is actually slightly snowier than Buffalo (99.5" vs. 94.7" on average annually).

minimum temperatures in the nordic region last night. -39.8C in gielas. together with nikkaluoktas -39.8C earlier this month, that's the lowest temperature in sweden this winter. they have revised the figure for gielas now to -40.4C. I don't get "revised" data. Isn't it basically maded up?

Syracuse is snowier, but slightly warmer outside of winter. Syracuse has reached 100 in 4 different years since 2000 while Rochester hasnโt hit it since 1953 and buffalo has never hit it. On the other hand, since 2000 buffalo has fallen to -10 in only 2 years, Rochester in 4 and Syracuse in 9. Rochester is also the driest, with areas just to the west and south being some of the driest in the state. Spring is also the time when I want the most warmth by far. Iโd gladly knock 5 degrees off October-December and add them to February-April

I remember telling Alex in the shoutbox that I would gladly trade 5F off our winter months in exchange for 5F more in the Spring. I hate cold winters, but I hate cold springs even more! Syracuse does seem to be the best in the summer. However its also insanely cloudy. Buffalo's summers are too moderated Binghamton's station is the worst year round, but not representative of the town itself since its on much higher elevation. I think maybe Elmira is the best comparison for the actual town of Binghamton, since its on the same latitude

I know you're joking, but between mid-2013 and April 2015 it seemed like Eastern US was literally the only place in the world getting negative anomalies. I think Tom is still scarred from that time period. It is annoying when the rest of the world is heating up but youre stuck in the freezer

Clouds lingered this morning, but the sun did eventually come out for the first time in four days. Nice April day with a high of 53 F/12 C. Pretty tranquil tomorrow and Wednesday with highs in the 50s followed by a possible nor'easter at the end of the week that could bring heavy rain and wind.
Forecast highs for the weekend into early next week look seasonable.

^ I'll post highs later today. I started following weather in 2014, and I've never seen Europe get temperatures as low as this! Feels good when the Polar Vortex goes somewhere that's not the Eastern US lol
