It's only halfway trough the month and already 100 mm of precipitation. Normal for the month is 70 mm. How do you like that sari? And tomorrow is likely the first ice day of the season. We got an ice day before you! Cold one, highs in the low 20s (below -5C)

Is that normal? Or has a blocking pattern kept out the cold from the east? Cold comes from the east there, right? Or north?

First ice day of the winter was 10th December here - we don't average a lot of these and when they happen it's usually in a prolonged cold spell where several happen at once. But we have also had entire winters without one.

Is that normal? Or has a blocking pattern kept out the cold from the east? Cold comes from the east there, right? Or north? Hell no. Normal record low for December is -15C, and -9C for November. I don't remember how many ice days we average in Dec, but it's several. The cold comes mostly from the north. We have had nothing but Atlantic air this month.

Averages MTD:
Mean Max: 39 F/4 C Mean Min: 22 F/-6 C Mean: 31 F/-1 C
Highest Max: 55 F/13 C Lowest Max: 23 F/-5 C
Highest Min: 34 F/1 C Lowest Min: 6 F/-14 C
Running right around average. Thought it would have been below, but recent Decembers have been mild so it feels colder. Had 3 ice days. Snowed Thursday morning and Friday evening. Both events dropped roughly 1-2 inches. MTD that would bring the total around at least 6 inches. Definitely one of the best Decembers in a while.

This is Bingley up to the 16th:
Mean max: 4.2C (-1.6) Mean min: 0.8C (0.0) Sunshine: ~34 hours (76% of entire monthly average) Rainfall: 32.6 mm (29% " ") Snow lying days: 7 Ice days: 2
We've got mild crap for the foreseeable future but I really can't complain about the past six weeks, sunshine way above average, not much rain and the coldest start to winter since the freakish December of 2010.

Strangely enough nothing out of the ordinary for Binghamton...seems like the farther east and north that you go, the worse it gets

All hope is not lost for a white Christmas in Vancouver. Models are showing a strong system will hit us on Tuesday with heavy rain changing to heavy snow overnight. Cold/clear on Wednesday and Thursday with snow possible on Friday as a small system slides down the coast.
