This just appeared on the extremes list for this month: And on the BOM obs page Could it be legit, it only just appeared after 3 days, that's 3 days of scrutiny and quality control I would think, and it's an official BOM station that's been in operation since 1969 with complete, reliable data.

Hmm. Longerenong to the south recorded 46Β°C, but I still doubt that Warracknabeal got to 50Β°C, especially as the airport only seemed to hover around the 44-45Β°C mark. I believe Ouyen had the highest in Vic with 46.7Β°C on that day. If this is somehow proved to be legit then that's groundbreaking. This is Warracknabeal AP's observations for that day:

The temp patterns at surrounding stations match, and it was the hottest day at every surrounding station. It only just appeared in the obs, I expect that would mean the BOM spent some time in scrutiny and quality control before approving it for the official obs. The surrounding temps were high enough to make it feasible . Could've been a heat burst from a nearby shower/storm or something. Loxton recorded 39.7C at 10:30pm with nearby storms as seen in my screencap on the previous page, so there has been some unique activity over the last couple days. This airmass was massively hot, it is not out of the question.
In any case, I am drinking in hope that this is infact real.

If it did really happen, it'd have to be a heat burst from a dissipating storm in between 1-6pm or thereabouts. Maybe it'll show up in the news tomorrow or something lol

Perhaps the BOM will release a report or something, I mean this is 3 days worth of scrutiny and quality control between then and now. It is a legit official station with nearly 5 decades of reliable data. Loxton had a heat burst from storms at with temps reaching 39.7C at 10:30pm. At the same time my temp was around 33C IIRC.

If true, it'd be the highest Victorian temperature on record (excluding the shitty Mildura reading) and the fourth highest ever for Australia.

Well, they've done it. Wow. Fourth hottest temperature on record, wonder how that felt over there. Meanwhile, not-so-legitimate records:

Wouldn't have a clue, maybe it's being investigated. Perhaps a member of their AGW brigade is responsible If it was genuine, I would've expected hoopla in the media and the australian weather forums, but not a peep from anyone.

Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest, actually! Just look at what weatherzone have done to Goulburn's minimum records, the bastards...just to preach their nasty agenda! Fucken dickheads.

Nice humid night we're having, 24.2C/20.3C DP in Bankstown, much the same across the city. It will be like this to the end of January at least, before a cooler run for a bit to ring in February. The BOM's forecast for February is garbage though, likely below average temps and rain! I can only hope they're wrong.

40.1C at midnight, outback South Australia, ludicrously epic I dunno, but this is probably the highest temp I've ever seen at this time of night.
