This just appeared on the extremes list for this month: And on the BOM obs page Could it be legit, it only just appeared after 3 days, that's 3 days of scrutiny and quality control I would think, and it's an official BOM station that's been in operation since 1969 with complete, reliable data. I know I'm kinda late, but nice! Rather high diurnal range too, looks rather swingy. 8 C morning just five days prior, and only a 22 C high as well lol. Sounds like decent summer weather, bursts of extreme heat interspersed with periods of cooler, refreshing weather. Average high is about my ideal (33.5 C) but could use a lot more rain though, and less diurnal range.

One last swim in a clear deep flowing river, before I head back to Aussie this afternoon - only swimming in Shepparton, is in brown canals, or at the pool where diving will get you thrown out - which is a shame, because I generally feel like going for a swim 99% of the time there.
May as well do a temperature update while I'm here - at 2:02 pm 27.3C and 68% RH, with scattered high cloud and a light sea breeze. Forecast overnight low of 17C.

The weather won't be conductive to swimming anyway. Cool southerly wank attack on the way.

That cyclonic shaped low pressure area in the monsoon trough over WA has formed and existed entirely over land so far. How common is such an occurrence? Do tropical storms form over land much?

The 31.4C low in Mildura today is a Jan record for the airport site, but the all time highest low was 31.9C in Dec 2015.
The highest low for summer so far is 34.4C at Birdsville QLD on Jan 12, followed by 34.2C in Marree, SA today (Jan 29).

Potential answer to my question: "Why wasn't it classified as a cyclone? The Bureau of Meteorology's Steph Bond said the conditions had been similar to a category one tropical cyclone. But the weather event did not fit the criteria to be labelled a tropical cyclone. Typically, a tropical cyclone is formed over water with sustained winds of over 65 knots in the centre of the system. The topical low did not form over water and the severe wind and rain were not in the centre of the system." www.weatherzone.com.au/news/worse-than-a-cyclone-tropical-low-devastates-was-north/527437

Perth...hasn't reached 40C yet this summer and doesn't look like it will for the next 10 days. Shiet will this be a summer without 40C? Pretty sure ive never experienced one.
