Finally blue sky today; looks placid but there’s a storm in the forecast to the south

Strewthless, I saw your latest pics and I have to ask, is Wrexham also extremely sunny in relation to a normal May this year? I know in that part of Europe May usually is the sunniest month, but I basically haven't seen a cloud here for the past 10 days or so, hence I'd assume it's relatively similar across the pond too?

Incredible diurnals here today; 26/6...
That's like some PNW mountain climate, and this is in a coastal town! These perpetual sunny days and clear nights are wreaking all sorts of havoc now.

Not that unusual in May at all...

Yes, it's definitely been above average so far, but nothing unusual. May is one of our most reliable months when it comes to sunshine, same across much of the UK and northern Europe.

When was the last sunnier than average May up there? This will likely be the first since 2011 for London.

I'd hazard a guess that it was last May, since we had a strong spell in the 2nd half of the month. Although I could be wrong.

If our forecast is accurate, we will be on about 240 hours to the 27th May. The last 10 Mays have seen the following sun hours (the average is 198.5). Before 2011, you have to go back to 2005 to find a sunnier than average May, though there were 3 in a row between 03-05. 2017: 164.8 2016: 192.7 2015: 189.0 2014: 178.8 2013: 163.3 2012: 166.6 2011: 218.0 2010: 170.4 2009: 193.9 2008: 162.6

We're on around 125 hours here so far, but like Razza, they don't record sun at Linton, only Leeming. Weatheronline gives us another 84 hours up to the 22nd, so not too bad tbh.

Nope, not inland. Here on the other hand though, 26°C temps this early would correlate with 9-10°C lows. In Örebro I wouldn't have been one bit surprised by a 26/6 day. That being said, things like that have happened before. I remember two years ago a 25/3 day happened, but that really was a one-off. Otherwise May 2016 nights were rather mild.

I'd be absolutely stunned if Norrköping doesn't top 300 hours this May. There should've been almost complete coverage these last 10 days and the daylight possibilities are only extending further and further. The record is at 352 hours set in 1992, and I think that should be reachable at this rate. After all, the forecast says a lot more sunshine coming up even as temps lower later this week. Stockholm at 391 hours in 1941 will have a lot harder time to break that record, but I might be wrong as well, Stockholm does have about 20 hours more potential daylight than Norrköping in summer courtesy of being a bit farther north so... To get a 400 hour-sunshine month in May somewhere in Sweden would be quite fantastic though so hopefully no stratocrapulus to spoil the fun now...

Unbelievably enough Norrköping is stuck at 133 hours up until May 14 and didn't record anything at all on May 12, which was a sunny day here... oh well. Far from over though considering the extra hour of daylight the second half and the sunny momentum there is right now. 352 might be tough though.

Hmm. Seems we're only up tp 144h, and not more than a few minutes of sushine has been recorded after 20.00 this whole month, and often completely sunny days don't even record sunshine after 19.00. very strange...

Not with these low levels of humidity, no wind and completely cloudless skies. Diurnal ranges will always be high.

We should hit at least 250 for the month, but I'd be happy if we reached 200 after previous years.
