Nice photos. Your area looks less obviously "northern" — well, cold compared to the part of Newfoundland I visited [posted climate averages on that thread] that has similar averages to Umeå. I need to relook at your older photos, but looks like you have a lot deciduous trees? Newfoundland is mostly conifers, so it felt like a colder climate. Out in the country, if it isn't a conifer, it's a birch or aspen, none of which make it seem less boreal. I don't know if it's because I didn't see clouds for like a month, but every cloudy day here seems to have very cool clouds. Took a road I'd never gone on yesterday with the bike and dog. Didn't even know if it would lead back again. Strange to see a forest this dense with nothing but birches. Almost reminds me of when I went to Kebnekaise except these ones are denser, higher, and actually straight instead of stumped. I've never seen this kind of thing before. Rows of planted pine of some kind and larch. Strange being around Tavelsjö with unfamiliar views. Path eventually led into the forest. All moss is dead from the drought. Saw all these dead trees. Had to get close and investigate. Seems the pond turned into a swampy lake. Pair of cranes there. Strangely enough the pine forest dismantled eventually and turned into an atypical mixed forest for forest paths. Idk why it was atypical, just felt surprisingly dense. Forests here tend to be pretty sparse. After a very long dog bike (I was out biking for maybe 1.5h) I emerged on the opposite side of one of the valleys I always photograph. Can you imagine how much of a frost hollow this valley is?

Oh, apparently Lombardy poplar is just a cultivar of Black Poplar. Didn't realize they were a southerly species. There are tonnes of them in Umeå and even in Tavelsjö. Come to think of it, that shape is perfect for a tree around here. Very little wind making it less prone to topple, and the shape is good for low sun angles.
Must be something else, black poplar doesn't grow wild in this region except for a few garden/park escapees.

This is one of the most menacing clouds I've seen. It has rained on and off today lightly. Is it me or does that first picture show very slight signs of rotation?

Oh, I didn't mean to imply they grew in the wild here, but it's a very common planted tree.

God damn WC has made Umeå put up a sportsbar tent and massive screen in the middle of the center square blasting soccer noise all over town. Some friends and I went to a vernissage. Funny how there were hundreds of photos and paintings, yet we were most captivated by the view. The island "The Island" looks pretty cool and almost jungly from an Umean perspective. This is probably the closest to the city center you can live. This is a reinactment of what would happen to a *insert a string of 100 leftie referencing words like vegan latte sipping etc.* like me in a perfect world ruled by Cules and AW. Walking around at night we found the batmobile, a cool building ruined by construction, and a pretty decent looking hotel. This was at 23.30. 01.00 in Umeå 02:00 in Tavelsjö

I still find it fascinating seeing it that bright around midnight. Here atm that's what it looks like at around 5pm. " This is a reinactment of what would happen to a *insert a string of 100 leftie referencing words like vegan latte sipping etc.* like me in a perfect world ruled by Cules and AW."

Today we finally picked the cherries from grandpa tree! ^ cherries are not an easy fruit to pick, because the trees tend to be quite tall and with thin branches. In fact we only managed to pick the one from the lowest branches. ^ it is a particular variety of cherries, it is a little darker than the most diffused ones and a little less sweet. It is a variety of "amarene". ^ we nearly filled the bucket, not bad. The scenery around there was quite interesting too: ^ the river has so little water because it is deviated to an hydroelectric plant, we actually have plenty of water in this moment. Extra picture: my cat doesn't like to be touched (Uhm, I should bring with me some sunscreen too...)

Drought still going strong. The times it's rained, although enough toncreate puddles, and at times quite heavy, it's still only been 0.6mm per day, so only a couple of millimeters in June. Went on a bike trip through the same woods as last time but took a slightly shorter path. Imagine living in one of those houses overlooking the valley fields! Surprisingly green grass on this dirt road. Swamp. "Renewing area" Again, what's up with these god damn menacing clouds? This looks like something you'd see on a fantasy book cover. I don't know if I've seen such electric blue shining through dark grey skies before. Tavelsjö isn't supposed to have cool clouds. Also saw a fucking OWL! Never seen one before except once in Greece. Didn't know they flew so close to the ground, just 1.5m high.

Clearly raining in the second to last photo in the distance. Showers must be too isolated

Showers must be too isolated There were a few rainy days this week, but none of them had more than 0.6mm in Umeå, and I don't think it was much better in Tavelsjö. We'rr forecast like 14mm for Monday+Tuesday, but I hope there's no rain. I wanna see how far this drought can go. 2.1mm the last 44 days, but most of the grass and fields are lush and green. If there's gonna be an impressive drought it might as well set as extreme a record as possible.

This is the little palm tree which is has been growing in that weird spot of our garden for the last 5 years or so, even if no one remember to have planted any palm tree. Our suspect is that someone threw a seed (for example of a date fruit) and then it somehow started to grow where it was. I'm still amazed by how it survived our winter, we surely don't live at the north pole but last winter had a couple of interesting cold and snowy spells.
