Saharan dust reached the Gulf coast. This is what it looked like this evening. Grass looking dry here after no rain this week and temps in the mid to upper 90's. I've only had 0.33" of rain since June 12. The airport measured 1.29" during this period. The grass doesn't look as bad in these two pics. Large oak trees Also looked dry when I went up to Monroe in northeast Louisiana today. Monroe airport.

100 km bike ride today. Heat index reached 94°F, one of the hotter long rides I've done. Temperatures (order is air temperature, dewpoint after CLR, then heat index on the second to right column) Roadside flowers house nearby green river, found a spot chest deep to cool off went up the hill above the river. Wild turkeys some old country houses. Probably 200+ years old hazy view down valley another old looking house are these hops? Connecticut River French King Bridge another view about to jump does this look like pine forest near you Babu ?

Apart from that tree to the right, it could pass for Umeå. Usual giveaways are that none of the trees here are "tiered" or storeyd in their leaves and branches; they're pretty much a uniform blob. Nice pictures. Liked the one about the guy about to jump (the cavernous forest entry was fine as hell)

Saturday 23/6 to Wednesday 27/6: Nature reserve in the north of Nyköping: This is actually really steep, the camera lies a bit, see how the road "disappears" underneath you... The 18th century silver mine entrance: The canoeing slalom course in the north of town as well: Monday saw me try a new road, veering right here: Already getting interesting: Dare I call that "not a flat road"? Nor in this one: Typical Sörmland County landscapes: Twisty road parts: The end of that road: Still stayed interesting: Took a de-tour to the village of Runtuna where I hadn't been for seven years prior. This was due to someone using me as a "wind buffer" and I couldn't bike away from him since we were so equal so I just decided to take 4 km extra since I'm not a taxi service for strangers... Råby was sadly too cool in the water on Wednesday, but there's still a really good view coming down towards the lake: STOP! The road agency said it's time to view some Swedish barns while you wait for the road to be clear! Interesting clouds...

Today I did a trip to the highest part of my valley, it was a perfect summer day which could not be wasted! (I forgot to put some sunscreen also on the ears, and so they turned quite red now :/ ) Anyway, today I went in Oulx, a little town just above 1000 m of altitude in the high part of the valley where I live, for following a really funny "canoeing" competition on the river where all the participants had to build their own boat with cartoon and then try reach the finish line without sinking. Creative boats could receive an award too. Weather condition over there for today: 14.4/26.8°C, sunny, quite windy Here there are a couple of pictures I took on the road: ^this is the Fort of Exilles, one of the largest military fortresses that the Savoy family built on the Alps as a defence line against France. It is one of the main touristic spots of the valley, I'm planning to visit it in the next few months. ^Oulx is actually a quite windy place Some pictures of the town (that's not the historical center) Quite a lot of pines around there. That's quite curious, on the branch of the valley where I live there are really few pines at the same altitude, it would be still mostly broad leaves in here. My impression is that my branch is rainier than the area where Oulx is, maybe that's the reason for this difference. Passing to the true competition, here there is the boats construction phase: ^ yes, it is supposed to be a boat Just before the beginning of the competition: ^ there were really a lot of people watching. I was lucky enough to be close enough to the river to reach the water with my feet, and to get all the water splashes that the participants to the competition were trowing to us. And now let's go for cartoon boats! And also for a couple of videos:

Bus window photos, showing how dry it is around here. It became noticeably greener as I headed west. The first 3-4 photos look similar to the countryside east of perth in early summer, just as it's drying out completely. Looks like awesome countryside and towns too.

It's going to get even drier, for the next week we're forecast mostly late-20's, with a 50/50 chance of precipitation on Friday. A hosepipe ban can't be too far away.

No idea what these are. Look exotic. I feel like I recognize them fron gardens but I've never seen them in the wild (which goes for almost all the plants I've shown today). Like some rhubarb with funky indented leaves. They look like giant hogweed leaves.

They look like giant hogweed leaves. Nah, they look different The stem looks like it too. I guess the only ways to find out would be wait for it to flower or touch the leaves.

Would that be very green for summer in England ?

Went to test my new camera out in London yesterday, will upload the pics when I get back from Greece, but in the meantime here are a few pics from my phone. A hot summer day, with temps close to 32c (though briefly clouding over around 7pm). Starting on Richmond Hill After going into Richmond Park, walked back into Richmond to get the tube into central London. Here are a few pics near the green. I noticed a lot of lime leaves have fallen already, but the grass isn't any drier than normal for the time of year. Typical Richmond architecture. Ended up at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park, with some nice skyline views.

Yesterday July 1th I drove to the mountains and had a georgeos day hiking. This is Trollheimen mt range near Oppdal, ca 1 hr 40 min drive to the south.
Oppdal mt town, ca 650 m asl and inland. Looks dry. And actually, two weather stations in the municipality had their driest May ever (8.2 mm and 0.6 mm).
The high at Oppdal was 24.7C that afternoon
Museum in Oppdal. Noticed the snow on the mts
Started my hike. This is a common flower in the mt forest (no: tyrihjelm), it's poisenous actually
Higher ground, closing in on the treeline
1050 m ASL and this proved to be pretty much the treeline; only pockets of forest up here, one was right next, can actually see the top of the trees
Climbing fields of boulders on the bush tunda / low alpine tundra
Views getting better. Sheep grazing the bush tundra
Higher up the bush tundra also disappears, and now on the mid-alpine tundra; characterized by pretty much continuous plant cover but only low and small plants
Patches of snow up here
Summit 1386 m / 4547 ft ASL. Exactly 42 m higher than Ben Nevis in the UK
Lake down there and mountains of Trollheimen
Ground covered by plants even up here, so mid-alpine tundra
Then, on my way home, but still at 650 m ASL stopped near a nice mountain river

The images I uploaded today seem to have shrunk in size a little more than I expected when shown on this board. So I will try to upload one more in a larger size to the hosting page:
Yes it got larger here now
