Current temps at 8pm Pacific time. Cold air advection from the magnetic pole continues as a much wider area (compared to a week or two ago) has been touched by the cold. The next progression is further increase in cold intensity in the north, in conjunction with further advection. Advection is cold in the north. The north is continuing cold air advection. Soon, -60C air will be advecting over northern Canada. The magnetic pole will advect -60C air soon, in the north of Canada.

Very rare setup this time of the year. These are GFS estimated midnight temps. The high today (yesterday) was 20.2C, and as the meteorological day here is from 9 to 21, the high for today will probably be recorded before midnight. The sun set 3 hours ago here in Turku, normal daytime high is like 15C, and now we are 5C above average during the night?
Setups like this happens once in a while in winter when a cold front pushes away a warm front or vice versa, and more rarely in summer, but never seen this kind of event in September.

We had most likely the biggest random heat pulse ever, and probably broke some heat records. At midnight.
Now the winds are gone, it's really silent. During the warmest temperatures the wind gusts were like 16-18 m/s. now they're 7 m/s and soon probably 1-2 m/s.

Well this day just keeps getting more epic... Some localized heat produced a high of 92 (33.3 C), stunning for late September. The temp is a daily record high and just 2 days EVER have reached 92 f later (9/22/1895 and 9/25/2007)! This gives us 22 days 90+ this year, T-7th most all time! Well then a thunderstorm blew through bringing a torrential downpour, 40 mph winds, strobing lightning and producing an extreme-for-late-September 73 (23 C) dew point! In just 9 minutes, we picked up 0.16” (4 mm) and the temp fell from 88 to 75 (31 to 24 C). The storm (possibly the best of 2018) left a stunning, almost apocalyptic looking orange glow and some epic cloud formations as the sun set. Doesn’t quite do it justice but here’s a pic:

the hottest temperature is in Rochester. Odd. Usually interior New England or maybe the Hudson Valley is more prone to the hottest temperature is the center of the heat is northern. Or maybe in or near NYC. Occasionally upstate is warmer in the spring than interior New England if they're getting warmth brought up by a cold front but then we get the same warmth a day later. This heat is completely missing us. strange low and high pressure setup bringing warmth up there at 850 hPa; very stron winds on northern New England peaks Ontario got tornados after the cold front pushed out the hot air tonight Toronto for the last week large decrease in dewpoint after the hurricane remnants pass Long Island (Farmingdale) Amherst, MA

ATM the temp is 13.9C. Impressive heat spike out of nowhere.

Shitchester with 80.0/62.9 line for the month so far. 8.0F above average (!!!). Somehow that 80.0F average highs will be only 3rd highest all time. Seems like September is quite variable there
September 1881 was a monstrous +9.8F anomoly, so still some catching up to do

We had the warmest first 3 weeks of September on record.
Our lowest temp so far is just 51 (11 C), only 1931 hasn’t gotten colder the first 3 weeks of September.
Unfortunately the last week looks cool and will kill the anomaly but the month should still finish around 76/59 if the forecast holds which would still be top 10 warmest.
