Is the American East having a really warm winter? Not that I'm paying a lot of attention, but I don't think I've seen NY go below 0C on the weather app for weeks. How common is this in December/January?

^For nyc specifically, it's not extremely warm, but definitely above average for the past 2-3 weeks.
Last few times we saw 0C were Dec 26 and Dec 19 at Central Park. It could be a while until we see 0C again (another week or even 2?), and it may or may not be a record-breaking streak for the month of January. I doubt it though.
Luckily, warm patterns have to relent some time, and it may very well be March again (hopefully). I hope we don't get another 2012 (or even 2016), as those winters were ass (above avg throughout).

Zero sunshine and zero precipitation so far this year. 7ยบF temperature range over the past 40 hours. As boring as it gets.

A winter storm brought frigid temperatures of -32.2 degrees Celsius (-26 F) to Finnish Lapland early Thursday morning. The Finnish Meteorological Institute recorded the freeze in the Naruska district of Salla, located in the eastern part of Finnish Lapland.
The previous record for this winter season, -30.2 degrees Celsius, was measured shortly before the Christmas holidays on 23 December in the more central Lapland municipality of Sodankylรค.

why isn't this a snowstorm? annoying GFS has it going closer to the coast, with the low just off Long Island. only a few flakes briefly as the storm exits in southern Vermont & New Hampshire; otherwise all rain. Northern Vermont and New Hampshire are cold enough for snow for most of the storm but too far away from the low. This is why northern Vermont & New Hampshire gets less big snow storms [even if totals are high] since the big storms go along the coast

Day 5 without a lick of sun. Getting my first rain of the year as it spins around the low: This weekend looks beautiful, mostly sunny with highs in the low 50s.

Beautiful, sunny day today with a high of 50 (10 C).
This winter pattern has been awesome. The last 2 weeks weโve had a parade of warm fronts a few days apart. The rain has been confined to night or not at all in these fronts and when they leave, thereโs been nice pretty snowfalls that melt the next day.
I think i prefer this 3-5 days of cold, 1-2 days of warmth, repeat more than having like a week of warmth followed by a week of cold or sustained above average.
The lack of rain during the days is incredibly good too.
If we can keep this going for the rest of the winter and not ruin it with a marchuary, it would be the winter from heaven!

It stayed below 50F yesterday (max was 49F) though sky turned mostly clear late in the afternoon. Temp dropped to 35F this morning with a bit of frost. I got 3.38" of rain between the night of Jan 1 and Jan 3. The airport recorded 3.74" so far in 2019. I measured 7.48" between Dec 26 and Jan 3! 6+ inches of rain across a good swath of the deep South over the past 10 days.

The 3-4 week outlook shows colder temps for a good part of the central and eastern U.S. Perhaps increased likelihood of winter storms as well.

Not sure what happened last night up in the Whites. Fast warm up on Mt. Washington, warmer mid-level air came up ahead of the moisture?

Back-to-back 65ยฐF days in January! Full sun right now. Would be perfect if it werenโt so windy.
