It's currently -46.4C in Greenstone, Ontario, possibly the coldest temperature this winter in Canada outside of the territories. At the present moment it's 13C in Calgary and -25C in Winnipeg, a 38C difference between one end of the prairies and the other. Saskatoon is a bit on the colder side of the two, at -12C. Is Alberta going to miss the cold outbreak? Banff is at 10ยฐC Yeah, Alberta stayed warm as far as I know, the real cold is further east.

[Crossposted] While minimums of -30 C are not too uncommon in the lower 48 States during winter, MAX temperatures of -30 C are very rare. But next Tuesday and Wednesday, there seems to be a swath of them forecast in Northwest MN and Eastern ND, in places like Pembina, Grand Forks, and Bemidji. Now that is epic AF.
I also see some sub -40 lows very close to the US border, for example in Brandon MB (-43 F Tuesday night) which is south of 50N.
Edit: 46 below in Int'l Falls this morning, coldest since Jan 2011 I believe.
You're right. If you want to get more extreme, you can say it's tied for the coldest non-1909 temperature on record! All of the coldest days happened in 1909, and on non-consecutive days, which makes me think that the 1909 data is derpy

Seems Karasjok did it again; recorded the coldest low. Coldest hourly reading -40.2C @ 09:00. The high there last 24 hr will be something like -36C/-33F!
Low here was -5.9C at the airport and high ca -1.8C.

yikes. Is it a cold front storm attached to a squall line? Or something more localized? A bit of both, been quite stormy here the last two days. There's a stationary front to my south right now which is feeding a lot of moisture into the area. We got hit by the northern end of that squall line here, we got really heavy rain, high winds, and lightning/thunder for about 15-20 mins, raining moderately right now. Forecast for tonight is 52 F (11 C) and rain. wonder if Cuba go the same system or at least a related one

Looking like I should at least get some snow late tonight! Not sure how much will actually accumulate and not really expecting it to stick around long, as tomorrow it's forecast to get up to 43F with a sunny sky. Probabilities of an inch of accumulation. Advisories

Nice animation of the current storm. The rest of the precip should fall as snow now that the the warm sector has passed. Not sure how much we'll get from that, temps are extremely marginal within this fucking UHI.

The event here last night ended up being a big disappointment. No snow and I didn't even notice any ice pellets. Temp stayed warmer than expected as moisture came in. Woke up at 1:30 AM for no reason... Parts of Louisiana near the MS River got a bit of snow, and the best amounts were over Mississippi. Mostly sunny today getting up to 47F with the dewpoint getting down to 11F! The lowest it's been this winter. Cloud cover coming in tonight will prevent temp from falling as much as it could have. Low of 28F is forecast.

^EF-4 is a really bad tornado, I didn't hear about that at all, probably since it was in Cuba.
Lowest USA temperature this winter outside Alaska this winter is -49F/-45C in Kabetogama, Minnesota on the 27th. Kabetogama is 27 miles southeast of International Falls. From NOWData it has 6 nights at -40 already, but it might be double-counting some of those. It still has at least 4 separate -40 nights. Embarrass also has four. The coldest high temperature in Kabetogama is only -11F. their cold weather comes from radiational cooling on clear calm nights and it probably warms up fast, relatively speaking, once the sun comes out. 5-10F an hour The coldest in Wisconsin I've seen is -42 in Butternut. If the wind dies and that area gets a clear night several spots might see -40 this week. The current forecast has steady wind Also, the forecast temperatures aren't any colder than southern Wisconsin, actually some places are warmer than me.

Models are beginning to pick out a possible arctic blast impacting the northwest starting on Sunday.
12z EURO was quite chilly for the SW BC coast. 850mb temps dip to about -15C with a strong Arctic front descending from central BC.
Quite the intense cold pool modeled to blast through northern and central BC. Haven't seen an arctic blast like this in a while; have to go back to Nov 2010 for something similar.
Whether this will verify is still in the cards but it sure looks promising right now...
