snow squall warning for Massachusetts. Same one that swept through western Pennsylvania this morning. Speagles84 from the NWS Boston: ...HIGH IMPACT SNOW SQUALLS EXPECTED BETWEEN 3 AND 7 PM THIS EVENING WILL RESULT IN VERY HAZARDOUS TRAVEL... While dry weather will prevail through early afternoon, an arctic cold front will approach from the west. High impact snow squalls are expected to cross western MA/northern CT between 3 and 5 pm, and eastern MA/RI between 5 and 7 pm. The snow squalls should exit the southeast New England coast by 8 pm. These snow squalls may be quite widespread, resulting in briefly very heavy snow, strong winds, and near white-out conditions. While snow squalls will last less than 30 minutes in most locations, they will have a significant impact on travel and affect part of the evening commute. Dangerous travel conditions are expected. Snow accumulations up to an inch in a short time are anticipated, but can not rule out localized 2 inch amounts.

Itโs basically a white out now, only light snow but no visibility. Apparently the visibility is only 0.25 miles, extremely low.
Also very windy with 25 mph sustained winds and gusts around 40 mph. Thatโs kicking up lots of blowing snow.
The wind chill is down to -21 (-29 C)! Only getting colder overnight and should be similar tomorrow!
I went for a 20 minute walk earlier and it wasnโt particularly cold without the wind but when the wind was blowing it was very cold.
Should stay under 10 tomorrow then hit 50 on Monday! Awesome variability this month!

We have a winter storm watch in effect, first one of the season. Potentially around 20cm of snow and high winds expected in the area tomorrow and Saturday, should be an interesting weekend.

Giorbanguly INL currently sitting at 44 below at 6 am local time. Might go below -46 at this rate. Meh, probably not sadly. At this point it only goes maybe -1F or -2F more Upper Midwest

Blah, it came out grainy. Here are some impressive readings I see
-45F (-43C) in International Falls -42F (-41C) in Brainerd -38F (-39C) in Lone Rock Wisconsin - same latitude as Milwaukee -33F (-36C) in Savanna IL - same latitude as Chicago
Seems like they (slightly) overestimated the cold in Chicago, but really underestimated it in Wisconsin and Minnesota!

It looks like today's going to be an unforecast ice day across a lot of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and probably the coldest day of the year because of freezing fog, it's pretty weird to see Leeming 5C warmer than Linton-on-Ouse in mid-afternoon given those places are no more than about 20 miles apart.

I shouldn't have said anything. Euro late last night begun to back off on the cold. 850s dip to only about -10C. Same with the GFS this morning.

Low last night was only -1 (-18 C). Kinda lame.
Itโs already 8 right now and itโs sunny so we probably wonโt get a sub 10 f high either.
Lowest wind chill from this cold snap was -23 (-31 C), mostly due to the high winds. The actual temps were very cold but nothing near any records.
