30F and lightly snowing now as of 145 PM. Picked up 2" so far today, roads were covered. Lucky coincidence I worked from home today.

rather cold up in Maine; probably only a little above normal but definitely already "real" winter temperatures

Crazy max temp distribution today. Inversion caused the Rio Grande Valley to be colder than mountains 4,000+ ft higher. Socorro tied Los Alamos for the coldest max temp today at 39 F.

There's no winter here to discuss at the moment. Just endlessly above freezing by a degree or two and any precipitation is rain. One of the worst starts to December I can recall in terms of sheer annoyance. 25 mm of cold rainfall to end November last Friday and this week it's been absolute nonsense lower single-digit weather.

The southern inlet of Hudson Bay right now. -20°C over the southernmost offshore locations over the Bay this early in the season during mid-day, rather impressive. This is at 51°N, and equally cold air temps over the bay are found only at 60°N and above right now.

Had a small-ball snowfall this afternoon. The earth is mostly white, but barely. Anyway, while we might get some more tonight, it will be gone tomorrow, as highs from 4 to 5C are expected.

Brr. What's ice fog exactly? It's pretty common in Fairbanks and Siberia. It happens when the temp goes below -40 I believe. Here's a gorgeous winter scene of it in Yellowknife:

Here's a gorgeous winter scene of it in Yellowknife: There actually was a case of that at -4°C to -6°C in Nyköping the other week when the dew points couldn't cope with the northerlies and the cold snap while the SST's are still a bit above the normal for the season. My glasses got ice remnants stuck on them while cycling through that! I can't recall this ever happening before even here on the coast, while inland this should be just impossible since DP's during cold snaps fall a bit when away from the sea on this latitude.
Sensational stuff.

Isn't ice fog the same as freezing fog, i.e. there's fog when the temperature is below freezing?

That's why you should wear contacts. Didn't say 5°C is too chilly for a bike ride? I'm confused on your bike ride temperature preferences

That's why you should wear contacts. Didn't say 5°C is too chilly for a bike ride? I'm confused on your bike ride temperature preferences I'm still recovering from a 0°C ride on Wednesday, and it took me five days to fully recover from that ride in the picture. 20 km then felt like 60 km in 20°C, and likewise 25 km in 0°C is quite similar. So, absolutely that is the case, but what's the alternative? Sitting indoors and become fat and in useless shape for March?

Brr. What's ice fog exactly? Ice fog entirely consists of ice crystals limiting visibility. A mixed phased fog with water droplets and ice crystals commonly occurs between -10 and -30 °C.

lmao with all the dry weather I forgot about this storm and assumed it was a bust. Low pressure system covering almost the whole south in clouds temperatures are too warm enough in the south right now for south but by late Sunday when the storm passes it'll cool down looks like only western NC and Virginia will get snow out of this current temperature map has below 20°F in Vermont & New Hampshire, very cold dry air mass keeping the low on a track to the south current location of the high pressure system

It was absolutely frigid last night. My 3" snow depth dropped my backyard temperature to....
9F !!! Last night
High was only 25F today, and it was below 20F at noon and again below by 4 pm, quite chilly. Its already 15F as of 830 pm, I'm expecting another potential for a 0s low again.
