Iโd be really pissed if I lived in Amarillo. They were forecast 6โ of snow a few days ago and ended up getting nothing.
Nice large snowstorm in the southern Texas panhandle and in North Carolina.
Weโve transitioned to a sunny pattern here. After going probably 2 weeks without seeing the sun, the last 3 days have all been partly or mostly sunny. I like the variety and thereโs been some cool skies the past few days rather than just a grey curtain.

The snowstorm is looking pretty big especially for early winter in the south. Some of the totals are more snow than I've seen this year,

Quebec City hit a low of -31C yesterday, breaking the previous daily record by 4C. I imagine it's probably pretty unusual for them to hit the -30s before any of the major prairie cities, so this is probably early in the season for such an intense cold snap for them. I'm not even sure whether they get down to -30C every year.

Just 38F here at 11 AM with wind chill of 32F. Forecast high of 46F today but I'm not sure if we will reach that.
Had quite a bit of rain Friday night and Saturday morning; my total was 2.85".
Hasn't reached 60F since last Monday and not forecast to reach it until Wednesday.

Nothing says weโre not in Massachusetts anymore than โ52f and 5% humidity โ AJ1013As for the change, I think Iโd need weather maps with several levels to say something. Weird thing to me is the lack of wind direction shift . Whatโs the elevation? Mt. Washington can get crazy low humidity as midlevels can be very dry without mixing from the surface

Not localized. Happened here too. -25 F is relatively common, I've seen it below -40 F.

tommyFL interesting. I've seen pockets of really low dp's in mountain areas on models but I always assumed it was just an error.

Last year Christmas here ended up decently cool. I think last year the models had been flip-flopping between torch and cold for Christmas 1-2 weeks in advance.

Skew-T plot for North Carolina during the snowstorm. You can see it's a bit warmer aloft than the surface but stays below freezing the whole time, allowing for snow. It's saturated in the entire column of the atmosphere. Guessing the snowfall rates were high?

Did I miss what 46er this is? Doesn't look like whiteface Twitter reply says Algonquin. Itโs steep but has a relatively short approach and hike so a better winter hike than the great range peaks. White face has buildings on the summit
