Seems a smaller part of Sweden got a 15th february speing than initially expected due to the last day in the row being cold in large parts of the country. (Umeå University managed to dip down below -20'C!). Of course, since the heatwave started before the 15th, a large part of Sweden had the 7 spring days required for spring to start, but since there's an additional requirement that spring cannot start before the 15th of February, those days didn't count. Yes. In cases such as this one, the thresholds become very arbitrary. I will however say that for all intents and purposes, all the places currently marked on the map in green, have in fact entered spring. These places have averaged 3-7'C means for the last couple of weeks, and will continue to due so for the foreseeable future, and March is highly unlikely to be far below average, so spring will most likely continue.

Glad the warmth has been confined to my southeast. Got up to 80F in New Orleans today, but didn't make it past 51F here. It hasn't been reached 60F in Alexandria since Sunday morning. Pretty damp as well with periods of rain/t-storms but nothing too heavy. Supposed to warm tomorrow up to 75F with some severe potential Friday/Saturday before another front comes. I'm thinking we will make it through February without reaching 80F.

Strong differences between the coast and the interior this month. First three weeks: Norrköping 4.7/-0.8 Floda 3.8/-3.0 13-19 Feb: Norrköping 9.1/2.3 Floda 6.8/0.5 Sunny weather and strong winds have definitely aided the warmth insurgence into the winter that really fell flat after a week of this month. Having said that, Floda recorded -12.9°C last night and here it was about -8°C, so it's still lurking somewhere.
Anyway, it's still far from the insane 1990 records, when Norrköping had a full seven days (20th-26th) averaging 11.8/5.8 (!) late in the month.

Heading into the hottest time of the year with a rolling start. We had a very brief shower (trace amount of rainfall) last week but other wise nothing. We've only recorded 1.6 mm of rain for Jan and Feb and the coming summer is predicted to be hotter than average. The last week:

Got up to 80F in New Orleans today, but didn't make it past 51F here. Wow. Had a front already cleared your area or something?

Got up to 80F in New Orleans today, but didn't make it past 51F here. Wow. Had a front already cleared your area or something? I think there has just been a fairly stationary frontal boundary between here and New Orleans for much of the week. The warmer air arrived here yesterday. We would probably get near 80F if sky would clear up.

It's been a chilly month in Vancouver but not much snow to show for it. Normally we average a lot more snow than Victoria or Seattle but they're owning us for snowfall this month.
Victoria has almost 70cm, Seattle has over 50cm. Vancouver? Just about 30cm.
Looks like multiple snowstorms will hit Oregon this week. Portland looks to get 30-40cm in a few days...even they could surpass Vancouver soon.
Meanwhile, it looks dry for Vancouver for the next 10 days.

Tornado watch just issued. I'm on the southern end of it. Just had some brief heavy rain. Shows high likelihood of even EF2+ tornadoes. Close to the criteria for a PDS, but I guess just below.

Didn't really get much here with the storm system this afternoon. Just a couple of periods of moderate to heavy rain. There may not have been any thunder. Dewpoint dropped to the upper 50's after passage of dry line. Forecast to get down to 42F tonight.
I saw where Columbus, MS got hit by a tornado.

Pello went from a low of -30.1C on Friday to a 8.5C high on Saturday Kittilä went from a low of -33.5C to a 6.8C high Muonio went from a low of -35.1C to a 6.5C high
Unfortunately these took over 24 hours to achieve, so they won't be included in daily diurnal records. Nevertheless, extremely rare cases. Juupajoki in Central Finland recorded Saturday's highest temp with 9.4C, after recovering from a -20.6C low.

High Wind Warning in effect this afternoon until tomorrow evening. Gusts could be as high as 55-60 MPH. Looks like these warnings extend from the Midwest to the Northeast. Wind Advisories in portions of the Southeast.
