Boring as hell lately. Highs the past 9 days were: 32, 34, 37, 30, 32, 34, 33, 33, 34 Cant really get more stable then that. It also hasnโt been outside the 29-34 (-2 to 1 C) range since Sunday. Yes, thatโs 3 straight days within a 5 f range. And barely any snowfall either, yesterday at least got 0.6โ. At least itโs dry and a mix of sun and clouds, for a stable stretch this weather is pretty nice but man is it boring af. temperatures aren't that fun but nothing unusual, not that enticing to spending time outside, no variation; can't think of a better combination to not think of the weather Actually I feel like this is the best winter weather to be outside. Sunny, dry, slightly below average, as good as it will get in the winter

Sunny, dry, slightly below average, as good as it will get in the winter eh, it's cold enough to be annoying IMO; but nothing interesting about. Slightly above average would be better winter weather. Your tastes are backwards from mine: summer, or slightly below average temperature has awesome temperatures so stability is good, though occasional thunderstorm or hot and humid spell is good for excitement, but too much would get of being active and mugginess is a pain. But winter is always crummy no matter what the temperatures, might as well be interesting with reason.

never quite understood how sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) works. so we're getting SSW but because there's not blocking in the right location, the west is getting cold rather than the east?

good example of a freezing rain setup Same here, Paris did avoid freezing rain thanks to the UHI, but the nearby countryside wasn't as lucky. Cold in central France this morning, down to -9ยฐC in Romorantin near the Loire valley, quite a nosedive from the 12ยฐC low back in December 3.

Ewww. Found this string of highs in January 1987. This is the first two weeks of the months. These are highs, not lows or means; highs. -21.9 -16.4 -19.3 -23.8 -24.8 -26.9 -22.9 -27.8 -27.8 -18.6 -23.0 -22.7 -22.3
Turku had a high of -20.9C as recently as January 2016. That's the only sub -20C high Artukainen has recorded. The Airport had a high of -29.7C on 10 January 1987!

^that looks like a horrible piece of road engineering. It reminds me of National Lampoon's European Vacation, where they literally get stuck looping around a traffic circle in London all day, because no one will let them out lolol

Rare tornado southwest of Seattle. Looked fairly strong. in December? odd. guess winter is the stormiest there, so more likely than summer?

Rare tornado southwest of Seattle. Looked fairly strong. in December? odd. guess winter is the stormiest there, so more likely than summer? Tornadoes are rare for that area any time of the year. Doesn't look like a clear season there, but maybe a bit more likely in the warmer months. There was an EF-3 tornado near Seattle in Dec 1969. I think the graph below is for 1991-2010. www.ustornadoes.com/2013/03/19/monthly-tornado-averages-by-state-and-region/#w_coast

alex992 , AJ1013 SPC now showing enhanced risk for the Atlantic coast of FL tomorrow with 1730 update. Tomorrow is certainly looking more and more interesting, SPC was only showing a slight risk yesterday. My area is right on the border of moderate and enhanced risk.

Through 18 days, the month is averaging 38.0/27.4, actually slightly above average due to the lows.
Itโs actually been a very nice month so far. The dryness has been great, virtually no rain and only 0.77โ (20 mm) so far, less than half of normal!
There could be more snow but weโve still gotten about 7โ this month so not a big deal. Good mix of clouds and sun, less iron curtain than usual but still leaning toward clouds.
The stability is probably the only bad thing, we did have a 58 (14 C) day earlier but thereโs been no noteworthy cold (the lowest temp this month is just 18) and no real day-to-day temp swings.

^ We actually have a greater risk for severe weather in winter/early spring compared to summer, though TBH I have never seen an enhanced risk for down here. Tomorrow should be exciting.
