^wow, the 2018 editions of Goose Bay and Gaspé are actually very similar to my dream climate, which I am still working on.

this year is fucking bonkers by scandinavian standards. extremly cold low in march, huge diurnals, an incredible precipitation amount in september (swedish all-time record is 356mm for perspective).

At last I've gotten to it! Been putting off doing this for long enough. 2018 was a year of three acts, a good beginning, a shit middle and great end. Those endless dry, sunny winter days were doing my head in I swear. The storm in early September (67mm in one day in B-town, almost five times as much as July and August combined) was incredibly welcome, and heralded an unusually wet spring, particularly October with 17 consecutive days of rain in Bankstown. December was very stormy and warm and humid, the period from the 11th to the 21st is notable for having a storm every single day. Hope the numbers are correct, other capitals to come.

June absolutely terrible excuse for a summer month. Lots of cold rainy days too, half of January's precip is probably rain
Edit: How did you even like this so fast? I barely even pressed "post"

I watched the bits of events which I remember. The high pressure which caused the latest 20C on record in Finland was massive, but the "beast of the east" in UK in March looked quite lame.
I also noticed that in winter and early spring all cloud was from frontal systems, but in April there's a lot of convection starting.

Nidaros , Ariete and Babu as fellow Nordics what are your thoughts on Norrköping last year when going into the details month by month? For me the real standout thing was that April had a full seven days at 18.8/6.0 in the middle end of the month while October in turn had 19.6/7.6 in its middle. For both of those to happen in the same year is crazy. Looking at July and August through a detail level is also rather impressive to see what actually occurred. May also had some really sizeable diurnals looking at it now, with the 26.9/5.6 day on the 14th really standing out. Also, 🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 , thoughts on that insane Dfa year? Would you like to see Överkalix done in this manner after its crazy year up there?

The biggest thing which stands out is of course June, which was 2.4C warmer than here. Two days above 30C, and with 11 warmer highs than our record high. Turku and Trondheim got severely ripped off last June.

I noticed June was rather weak in Northern Sweden, but never noticed that also befell Southern Finland... Early and late June around here were both rather marvellous though. Mid-June mostly blew away.
What about September though? Was the first warm week here matched at all in Turku?

Those are some crazy means for your latitude that late and given the September normals. With that low, might have been even warmer than the previous record beginning of that month?

Not any more crazy than in Norrköping.

Well, the lows were way warmer and temperatures more above average. After all, Norrköping has always been warmer than Stockholm during September days and matching it well during nights due to the sun strength making a big difference that time of the year. Of course Norrköping was also above average early on in that month, but nothing like lows above 13°C for a week while simultaneously having those 22-ish highs. Having warm lows and warm highs in September kind of don't go together so well. Usually that just results in mellanmjölk 19/15 or something.

Since 2002 Norrköping's September's have been 0.7C warmer than in Turku. Lows 0.1C warmer. In Turku on 7 Sep the sun angle is 35.7 degrees, in Norrköping 37.5 degrees. It makes absolutely no difference. None. Norrköping is literally 220 km more south.
Here's the last 10 September highs here, oldest first:
17.4 15.6 16.8 15.3 16.6 17.7 17.1 17.3 15.5 17.8
Last year had the warmest highs, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Stop pretending that your Septembers would be somehow remarkably different, or that you would live in a different climate altogether.
