3rd 90°F+ day in a row, and now hearing thunder. ^ Good god, like 10 C colder just outside the city! That's some serious UHI. Haven't experienced such a big UHI effect here in DC yet, the biggest differences I've seen are about 7 C between here and DC proper. Of course, DC is much smaller than Paris though. 69 F (20.6 C) and overcast here with a nice SE breeze outside, crummery type weather lol. High today is predicted at 77 F (25 C) with cloudy skies and a good chance of showers. Hasn't been above 80 F (26.7 C) in five days, that's quite remarkable for late August! Welcome to Paris in crummer lol! The most impressive difference I witnessed was back in Jan 2010, with a 14°C difference between Montsouris (-7) and Brétigny (-21). And that place isn't even a frost hollow!

It's still August, I'm surprised you haven't had 30C in September. We've even had 29.5C in October. It always surprises me how cool September is up there in comparison to July and August. September here is generally as warm as June, and is often much better.

IIRC until recently Oslo hadn't hit the 20°C mark at all in October. Seems like the potential for warmth wanes quickly.

And that place isn't even a frost hollow! Damn, a 14 C difference is insane! I think I may have seen a difference that big between NYC and inland, outlying areas in NJ and CT, but I've never seen it for here. Looking back the past ten years, the biggest difference I could find was a 10 C difference between Reagan (DC proper) and Dulles (outlying areas) on February 24, 2015. Reagan had a -10 C low while out here had a -20 C low! Impressive difference, but it ain't 14 C lol. Maybe taking into consideration even further outlying areas like Front Royal and Winchester up here there could be a difference that big. It's interesting in spring, DC proper blooms like three weeks ahead of out here. At least this past March, lots of mornings which were solid freezes out here (like in the -3 C to -5 C range) were 2-3 C lows in DC proper. They were bursting in bloom in the second half of March while out here was pretty much completely bare through the end of the month. I wonder what's the largest UHI ever recorded, I wonder if a 20 C difference between an urban station and an outlying location is possible in the same geographical area. I would guess if the rural location is in a frost hollow it could be possible. Kind of a warm-ish and humid-ish evening here, at least compared to recent weather. 23 C with an 18 C dew point. Still quite pleasant though.

Never hit 30C in September, even if we’ve had 25.6C in Oct

Warm and humid this morning compared to the last few days; 70 F (21.1 C) with a 67 F (19.4 C) dew point. Today will be quite nice, sunny, low humidity, high predicted at 82 F (27.8 C).
We're getting some nice and cool nights the next couple of days, 61 F (16.1 C) for tonight and 58 F (14.4 C) for tomorrow night.

Very humid down in the south. Many days surpassed 21'C DPs and today has reached 21.6'C so far at Utklippan. Warm lows too for being so late in August

No 30C in September here either. The nationwide September high is 28.8C.
IIRC the last 30C was recorded on the 28th of August, so on this day.
Well in any case, Kittilä Pokka and Muonio in Northern Lapland recorded 25C+ today, and that their latest 25C readings ever.

Today hit 80+ for the first time since last Thursday, quite remarkable not to hit 80 F for almost a week in August! Had quite the downpour today too.
76 F with a 68 F dew point this evening here, not terrible, but not good either.
Supposed to drop to 60 F (15.6 C) tonight and 57 F (13.9 C) tomorrow night though! Nice and cool nights. I'm guessing there will be a good drop in dews later on to aid in the cool down tonight.

Some absolutely fierce winds from the west-northwest over here this evening, currently 50km/h gusting to 64km/h. Thankfully its supposed to calm down to 20km/h overnight and into tomorrow. Still too windy for my liking though.

Had a pretty good thunderstorm this evening; the best lightning I've seen this summer! Some close range strikes.
Storm with flooding rains at the end of July probably had more lightning but I didn't really get to watch much of it.

So it actually did end up cooling off nicely last night, and a drop in dews did indeed come: w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.htmlI think we'll drop into the 50s this morning, we still have about 2-3 hours of cooling off left still.

The newest drought monitor update has us in the “abnormally dry” category. First time in some level of drought since last July.
It’s been a pretty dry August with only 1.74” (44 mm) so far. I like the dryness but I wish that rainfall came as thunderstorms not drizzly rain.
I’m hoping we can get into actual drought next week but it looks like we’ll be entering a wetter pattern.
For a warm, dry summer—which is what I root for—it’s been as bad as it could be. The positive anomalies are coming from consistent slightly above average weather so it’s been both extremely stable and there’s been no heat. It’ll end up above average but all heat stats like record high, days over 90, days over 30 C, etc. will end up below average. With boring as fuck temps, there could at least be good storms but there’s been very few thunderstorms and all the rain is just plain old moderate rain.

Hottest station in Finland today was Kronoby with 28.1C. This is their new warmest late summer reading, beating 27.8C from 23 August 2002 and 27.6C from 6 September 1968.

69 F (21 C) with a 58 F (14.4 C) dew point here, it's cooled off by 11 F (6.1 C) in only the past hour! w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAD.htmlUnfortunately, for whatever stupid reason, NWS took a giant shit this morning. I very clearly remember seeing OBS for 4-6 am but it's not showing up on there, and of course it fucked up the 6-hour readings, so no way of telling what the real low this morning was. Not the first time it does that either.

alex992 it's there now, I don't know why. Lowest hourly reading was 57 at 5:52am, actual low 56. After a cool morning of 47F/8C, the high was 81F/28C with dew point reaching as high as 68F/20C from south and southwest winds before drier air came through from the northwest. Down to 64F/18C with a dew point of 52F/11C at 11pm.
