Most of the news today has been about the wind but that's not been the story here, 67 mm of rain plus whatever we get the rest of this evening is huge for one day! Unsurprisingly flooding has been an issue, I didn't drive anywhere today because some of the roads were blocked but the stream/small river in the park was pretty fierce where it hadn't already overflowed.

hiked up Algonquin Peak yesterday; second highest peak in the Adirondacks. Beautiful snowy covered forest and some nice mountainside views near the top but the summit was in the clouds, rather windy but tolerable.

Went on a very long walk today. The weather was just so nice with 4'C, barely any wind at all, and some partially blue skies. Almost felt spring-like. A small lake has formed on my nearby agricultural fields. Looking towards the city center Not many centimeters of snow left. Some flower sprouts River sunset

The day after, there was a fair bit of frost on the trees.

Today felt almost spring-like here too, about 6'C when I drove just a few km. Clear skies with the Feb sun above; this is just 170 m ASl and like 5 km from the fjord; just about enough snow to go cross country skiing up here, should have been a little more though for good skiing.

As a contrast to my photos from yesterday, here are a few photos from today near the fjord in the eastern part of Trondheim (Ranheim).

Nice springlike day today with 4-5'C and sunshine, after yesterday's 5'C and 20-30mm rain melting a lot of the snow and ice.

Saw the strongest aurora I've ever seen in my life. It was absolutely crazy. I wish I were back in Tavelsjö outside of the light pollution. My smartphone camera is so fucking scratched and even cracked that all my images turned out shit.

The weather's been stormy recently, so I took an ill-advised a trip down to the river to see it about to burst its banks. A pretty miserable day but cool to see a usually placid river looking so angry. The woodland still looks pretty green throughout winter. Took some videos. Bad camera work, but at least I didn't nearly die with these attempts.

It usually floods in spring with meltwater but this year there's enough rain to do it early. Yech.

Went to the White Mountains last weekend for three days. First day hiked up to Mt. Willey from Crawford Notch. First view was on Mt. Avalon, a little over halfway. Mt. Washington across the valley, lower mountains block the view at the bottom of the notch

Nice springlike day today with 4-5'C and sunshine, after yesterday's 5'C and 20-30mm rain melting a lot of the snow and ice. the slushy snow and brown grass looks a bit like much of the winter back in western Massachusetts

The best season is coming to an end unfortunately. Might as well put up my pics from the season. Here's a few pics in and around NYC: Morningside park (been in the news) after some snow. Temp -2C. This was while riding bikes with nei. Temp +7C. Next 3 are from a late December bike ride. Temp +1C. Jogged a 12k to Columbus circle and back. While bike riding on a cloudy evening. This is Algonquin peak and the Adirondacks area from trip last weekend. -21C while driving slowly to Lake Placid. Stayed in a hotel called "Deer's head Inn" in E-town. Really great place. 200 year old refurbished building with modern amenities, and a really convenient great restaurant downstairs. They also give away free books. -22C, near Algonquin summit. -23C at summit. Had a pretty solid ice beard going. That's Wright's Peak. Gives a nice view of the tree line and how it tapers to nothing. The alpine taiga. It's easy to see where the deciduous trees taper off and the pine trees start because pine trees hold a lot more snow so the mountain turns white where they start to dominate. The coldest morning of the trip in E-town: This is Northern Vermont and the Mount Mansfield area. This is Essex, NY. It's a ferry port and here we're viewing towards Mt. Mansfield. This is near the Mansfield trailhead: On the summit trail it was -4C, warm enough that you don't need gloves and can be soaking wet and the strain from climbing up still keeps you warm. Getting close to the summit, still -4C, too foggy to see much. Looking down from the same spot: This was after descending a bit. Last few Yellowknife pics as well. Next 2 while hiking near Frame lake. Temp -38C. Pilots monument: Turns out -40 is enough to give you frostnip even for short filming intervals. That's nothing compared to my Chicago trip last year when my hand swoll up like a boxing glove. Don't open the spoiler if you're squeamish.
