We had a huge thunderstorm come thru just after midnight with hurricane force wind gusts. It was maybe the strongest wind I've ever seen. My apartment lost power and a shingle fell off my roof onto my balcony.
Edit: Actually it was a piece of cardboard that said "Chinese in business", but I thought it was a shingle because the power was out when it fell.

Pretty consistently hot week with lows of 27-28 C and highs around 35-37 C. Very little rain.

Thanks, that looks awesome Wonder which station that is. NWS Burlington said that Massena reached 99F, beat the old daily record by 7F!

High today was only 83 (28 c) which snaps the 85+ streak at 10 days. That’s still good for T-7th longest.
Heard some thunder this evening but no rain or lightning, must have been from a distant storm.
Surprisingly there’s no puddles or standing water anywhere, even on the nearby wetland nature trail, after yesterday’s massive rain. The lawns are dry too but slightly less brown.

Edit: Actually it was a piece of cardboard that said "Chinese in business", but I thought it was a shingle because the power was out when it fell. The power finally came back on after being out for 20 hours. Luckily all the meat was in the freezer, and it was still cold when the power came back on, so I shouldn't hafta throw it out. The produce in the fridge looked fine as well. The bread and cooked pasta and rice I had in there should be fine, but the milk may spoil faster. I'm not sure about the eggs. I'd guess they're probably fine. I drove around town and took some damage photos that I'll upload to the pictures thread. There were some trees and power poles down, but all buildings seemed fine.

This is turning out to be a remarkably stable July so far. Nearly halfway through the month and we have a difference of only 3.5C between the average and record low, and 4.5C between the average and record high. We haven't hit 30C for highs nor dropped below 9C for lows, and currently none of the forecasts show us exceeding 27C or dropping below 12C in the next two weeks.

High was only 78 (26 c) today, the first sub 80 of the month.
Most of the day was cooler and cloudy with temps in the low 70s before the sun came out in the evening.

Current dewpoint is 79°F/26°C after peaking at 80°F/27°C a few hours ago. It definitely feels sticky out.
I'd like one well below normal August, pls.

Adelaide Airport had a high of 9.9C due to fog. Only 0.1C above that station's all-time record.

The neglected Charlotte Pass weather station, taken today (not my photo—credits to Ski.com.au Forum): R.I.P. 1967–2015. Such a prominent piece of Australian climatology…all but axed.
