It's been pretty dry so far this month... I haven't had any measurable precip since Aug 1. Did see some nice lightning from a storm Wednesday evening close by to my east, but I didn't even see a drop of rain from it. Was hoping to maybe get some storms today, but not much has materialized and precip chances have been lowered... Temps have been close to normal (slightly below due to min temps).

When stopped for gas in Nebraska City, NE yesterday the dew point was 79 (26 c)!
That could very well be the highest dew Iโve experienced. Although it was definitely muggy, it didnโt feel much different than a humid summer day in Rochester with low 70s dews. It helped that the temp was only 83 (28 c), but I would never have guessed the dew was that high. Still cool to experience though.

The dewpoint has been in the 72-75F (22-24C) range the past few days here. I can't wait for summer to be over.

This has been one of the longest spells of cloudy / mostly cloudy weather in recent memory. For the past two weeks I don't think we've had more than an hour of sun per day (mostly none at all). There has been localised heavy rain (as evidenced by the 100+ mm at one site two days ago) but mostly just on-and-off drizzle. We're just coming into the gloomiest time of year, so this is to be expected. Meanwhile in Coldchurch, we have a range from -4.7 C to 17.7 C in one week, which isn't bad considering how stable ChCh's winter weather usually is:

A second significant cold pool of air is going to arrive late into the week. To have two of these in a month is very unusual, especially in recent years. Possible snow in Canberra as well, although this is 6 days out

I note strikingly low snow levels on the South & Central West Slopes, and at rather northerly latitudesโspanning the Lachlan Valley: Young (440 m @ 34.3ยฐ S) Wyangala Dam, near Cowra (380 m @ 34.0ยฐ S) Off-Topic: If anyone's wondering, I decided to come back largely because the weather has improved (I didn't expect it); I feel it a wasted opportunity not to post this event on here. I will actively ignore i.e. block offending members, as opposed to engaging and throwing a fit like last time.

Had a nice storm yesterday evening with lots of lightning and sheets of rain blowing sideways. The airport recorded a gust of 56 mph. Heard some reports of small hail.
Glad something finally materialized after two weeks of nothing. May have another chance of strong storms this evening with intense heat and instability. Up to 96F as of 3 PM (NWS forecast high of 100F today).

High was 94 (34 c) today but dews were in the 40s so while hot in the sun, it was very pleasant in the shade.
It smelled very smoky and was quite hazy in the morning, I could just barely make out the outline of the mountains but as the day went on it got clearer and the smell went away pretty quickly.
Usually when Iโm driving into Colorado from the east, I can see the Rockies from well out into the plains, sometimes up to 80 miles away. However with all the smoke yesterday, I couldnโt see them until I was like 15 miles from Boulder.

Lytton, BC hit 41C yesterday, that might very well be the hottest temperature in Canada this year.
Saskatoon has a forecast high of 35C today which will be our hottest day of the year if it happens, and then another three straight days above 30C. This is likely our final real heatwave of the summer, after that it seems we're cooling down quite a bit.
