55 mm @ Orly airport so far this month. Extremely dry still in places but spots that got storms are progressively getting green again. For example there's a huge difference between my parents' home where it's greenish and mine where it's as brown as ever.
I wonder, did that actually feel dry to you? You must be used to constant 25C dewpoints
Not really, although I think the DP in my area was higher, maybe 21-22 C. I guess the combination of higher temps and sunshine made up for the DP being a few degrees lower in terms of subjective sultryness. But during winter cold snaps when the DP drops below 15 C I notice it right away.
Hurricane Laura about to make landfall in western Louisiana
Yeah, it's a very bad situation for southwest Louisiana. I hope ral31 is okay.

Conditions haven't really deteriorated that much here yet but probably won't be much longer before they do. Just woke up from sleeping briefly. Should get the worst conditions here between 3:00-7:00.
Looks like Laura may be going a bit east on its projected path, but I'm still thinking the eye wall will miss me.
We've only had three above-normal days so far this month, but the next two days may wind up warmer than normal.

High was 91 (33 c) today, the last hot day for awhile.
Today ends the 90+ streak at 12 says, the T-3rd longest such streak on record.
Interestingly, there have been 14 days with a trace of rain yet only 2 of those had measurable rain this month. This could not happen in Shitchester. I’d say most of them are legit traces, the last 4-5 days have all had brief, light sprinkles lasting a few minutes in the afternoon and evening. This pattern is something I’m not used to at all.
The smoke is pretty much all gone today, there was no haze and very clear views of the mountains. You can supposedly see Longs Peak, a 14er, from here. It’s been to hazy or cloudy to see it yet though.

Had quite a decent thunderstorm roll through town yesterday. It dropped 6mm of rain on us which isn't all that much overall, but is still almost as much as we'd had the rest of the month combined so that was nice. Saturday's going to be another hot day and then go straight into fall weather after that.
OKC had its first 100°F day of the summer today, with the temperature hitting 102°F/39°C. On average, the first 100° day is on July 10 and the last is on August 20, so this happened significantly later than usual. 20 summers have failed to hit 100, most recently in 2004.
The southwestern part of the state, which typically sees the hottest summer weather, got up to 110°F/43.5°C.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but Australia broke its August record high this year - 3 times. West Roebuck (just inland from Broome) recorded 41.2C

Finally got power back last night (it's been out since 3:30 Thursday morning around the start of Hurricane Hanna's impact).
I made it thru the hurricane alright. A lot of tree damage around with some on houses. Some buildings sustained roof and siding damage and fences down. Can't use much water as we're under a boil advisory. Houses across the street from me still don't have power.
Laura's winds were the most intense I've seen from a hurricane. The airport recorded gusts up to 86 mph!
