Noodleman's Bibbulmun Adventures Part Deux 24th-26th July, 2020 Northcliffe-Pemberton (and an extra 8km to my relatives house) A link to the map of where we hiked, keep in mind we did walk an additional 8km north of Pemberton on the afternoon of the 26th. Weather 24th: 16.2C/9.3C, 0.0mm - a sunny morning becoming partly cloudy around midday and clearing in the afternoon 25th: 17.2C/6.6C, 10.4mm- a cloudy day, mostly high level cloud with some peaks of sun becoming overcast and dark as a front approached overnight. Generally quite windy. 26th: 17.2C/6.9C, 0.0mm - a completely sunny day, with some valley fog clearing to an absolutely lovely day, basically no wind. July 24: Northcliffe to Schafer Campsite (14.5km) A very short day, we began in the woods to the NE of Northcliffe before we emerged out of the dark green foliage into bright sunny rolling farmland; with cows and sheep enjoying the winter sunshine. Near Schafer Campsite we entered the woods much more, these were generally dominated by eucalyptus with less Karri and Marri trees (the really tall and old ones that populate the region). Didn't take many pics that day July 25: Schafer Campsite to Warren Campsite (22.1km) Although cloudy, it was quite a nice day with a stiff N/NW wind keeping us from sweating too much. We walked from Schafer Campsite to the Warren River where we hiked beneath the tallest Karri and Marri we had encountered to date! Stretching 40-60m into the sky they truly towered over us as we stuck near the river, twisting and turning through the foothills and creeks that fed the Warren River giving us some impressive but short climbs. We also encountered many interesting bridges, ranging from very simple to long-spanning and complex. Rain came through overnight. Towering Karri trees over the banks of the Warren River The Warren River at a set of rapids, we scrambled across the rocks at lunch trying to find a crossing over the river. One of the more primitive but beautiful bridges The locally known River Road Bridge July 26: Warren Campsite to Pemberton and then to my relatives house (22.6km + ~7 to 8km) A beautiful sunrise with valley fog turned into the best weather we had on the whole trip, near-cloudless the entire day we enjoyed fairly flat terrain (besides a few hills near the end) and a good array of views over farmland and gorgeous green forests. Sunrise on the 26th, the 25th actually had a much better sunrise (high overcast so the entire eastern half of the sky was scorched orange!) but I didn't take a photo cos I was waking up lol Fields at around 8:30am, still fog lingering in the wooded valleys The majesty of the Karri forests on a beautiful, clear winters day The Cascades, a popular tourist spot. Canopy Pemberton main street A set of rapids on the LeFroy Brook to the north of Pemberton. Me looking up at the towering Karri Trees

Here’s some from my trip to Allegheny national forest (PA) this past weekend: On the way down I stopped at the Griffiss sculpture park about 2 hours southwest of here. That night, I camped at the Hearts content “scenic” area and did a short hike. It had lots of old growth trees but looked just like any other northeastern forest so didn’t bother taking any pics. Saturday I drove down to the minister valley to hike. After walking a mile through the dispersed camping due to terrible signage I finally got on the trail and did a 7 mile hike. The first part was through open forest with hills peaking through the trees. There were lots of huge boulders jumbled around to add interest. Very colorful mushrooms: About halfway through, the trail got very overgrown and it became a “stare at the ground so you don’t fall and break and ankle” trail. Not that I was missing anything though as it was walking through a chute of brush. Finally, I came to the first actual view across the valley. After that it turned back into a pleasant wooded path. A couple times the trail cut through the boulders creating mini canyons I then got to the Minister Valley overlook which was supposed to be the highlight of the trail. There were some unmasked dudes smoking cigars up there though so I just went to the side briefly. I was going to stop at letchworth state park on the way back but it was closed for Covid and construction so I just drove home.

New Hampshire hike July 7. Longest hike I've done in a day: 21-21.5 miles (22 including going off trail) 7500 foot elevation gain. Up , over, around and back into the Great Gulf, my favorite glacial cirque. A couple miles into the hike nice view of the river with mountains above passed small waterfalls looking back down the Gulf Great Gulf Headwall lake climbing up the gulf looking back down trail became a route, followed cascades quick stop at Washington which was in the clouds next comes Jefferson Mount Adams was foggy next comes Madison looking back at Adams descending Madison

Beautiful nei The whites are clearly in a league of their own for the northeast. I should have gotten there this summer, too far away for an overnight trip though.

Sleet (I think?) on my pergola/outdoor area roof, it was about 3C when it happened. Didn't take any pictures of it on the ground, it melted quickly. My PWS at that time

Precipitation fizzled out, but it's still –1° C @ 10:28 AM, so it won't be melting any time soon.

A few random Saskatoon pictures taken over the past week or so. It's been pretty warm since the last week of July, so temperatures in most of these were in the high 20s/low 30s Celsius. Despite the awesome clouds we didn't really get any storms rolling through during this time...

I was in Provence this weekend, so here are some pictures of Avignon on Sunday afternoon; the weather was very nice with the dry bulb temperature being 96°F with a 58°F DP at the time of making those photos; shame I wasn't there when the record breaking June heatwave occurred last year. The main street, Rue de la République: Basilique Saint-Pierre. Neat bells: Palais des Papes: Avignon Cathedral (or Notre Dame des Doms d'Avignon): The bridge of Pont d'Avignon; cirrus clouds were sweeping in from the north which killed off any chances for a 100°F high: Place du Palais: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are pictures from Jardin des Doms, which is near the cathedral. ^ Note the small grape vineyard with Rhône River to the northwest. A pond, ducks and geese never fail to entertain: Looking to the east, neat cumulonimbus clouds: Skies still clear to the south: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drove to Pemberton yesterday where it was ~32C but it got hotter after leaving. Definitely felt more continental than here. nei
