What a beautiful weekend we had here. Mostly sunny all weekend, no wind, and max temperatures about 13 ยฐC. Went for a walk Saturday near sunset along the waterfront near downtown. Lots of people were out. West coast lifestyle. Sunday was just as nice. The morning walk with the dog brought us to a viewpoint in the neighbourhood overlooking one of the local golf courses. Pano from the same spot. Click for full size. Mount Baker (3,286 m) in Washington State lies 120 km almost due east. As seen from another neighbourhood viewpoint, it was looking beautiful in the evening sun. The waters of Cordova Bay and the Haro Strait lie in the foreground; the first land beyond is San Juan Island, USA.

@logan5 I think these clouds are from a cold front โ I imagine that clouds this "dark" aren't very common in California, other than in thunderstorms.

Indio gets like 3โ of rain per year. For comparison San Diego gets 10โ, Phoenix gets 8โ, Tucson gets 11.5โ and Miami gets 62โ.

Those are darker and more brooding than anything I've seen in recent memory due to the fact that I dont get storms ever.

We got some thick wet snow today, and a full blown winter storm is moving in overnight. We're expecting 2 to 4 cm of snow overnight, 10 to 15 cm tomorrow during the day, and 5 to 10 cm tomorrow night. This could very well end up being the biggest storm of the season despite the fact that it's only early November.

Darkest clouds Iโve seen probably ever. UV index is zero, wind is increasing, and feels like itโs cooling down. Thundersnow ~35 mi from me. Most insane weather Iโve ever seen. Super dusty earlier, then a sunshower, now this. Surely you jest? ... I wouldn't really call those dark clouds - more just clouds. Does California not really do dark clouds? Most of the clouds here are stereotypical white cirrus/cumulus clouds. We barely get these "dark" clouds. I also find marine layer pretty dark. What clouds are considered dark in NZ?
